Adding pads with a slave module?

I am hoping to be able to use a Yamaha DTXplorer module as a slave module for my 2box drumit5 module (orange version) - from midi out in the DTXplorer to mini in in the 2box.

The usb/midi connection light is blinking and THRU is "on". But the pads connected to the DTXplorer produces no sound on any of the 11 midi channels in the 2box module (the hits on the pads connected to the 2box module does produce a sound). The hits are recognized on the screen of the DTXplorer module, though. So what am I missing?

Hi Mik!

I am guessing that the MIDI note numbers are not matching across the two modules. The DrumIt can use multiple notes per channel so likely the defaults in the DTX will not match with the 2Box and need to be adjusted to suit.

Cheers!

Hi Ken

So you're actually telling me that it can be fixed? Very cool. And thank you very much for your reply.

All the best,
Mikael

Yamaha writes here that the midi note numbers can't be changed in the dtxplorer module. But that they "all transmit on midi channel 10":

Can't wait to try it out...

These two modules may not be a match made in heaven but you can get the basics to match. Although the DrumIt MIDI notes can reassigned, with multiple zones in play  (i.e, snare/rim) the notes must be sequential (snare=31, rim=32, etc). The DTX Kick & Toms are all single zone so settings those to match in the DrumIt will work fine. The Ride should work for bow and edge but the crash will not have the edge.
Using a MIDI event processor in between you can remap any of the notes so that all match but that is an extra expense added to the setup.

Cheers!

Thanks a lot, Ken. This is very helpful. I'll try it out and I will also add an event processor soon.

All the best,
