I think even those who do not believe in the death penalty would generally agree spammers gotta go!
Personally I lean toward the death penalty ;) ;D

IMO, I think that I know where we could stick them our piezos...and all the rest.
It is certainly bots which register in spite of the captcha in the register page.
I'm not a specialist, but a solution would be to deactivate the registrations for a moment or to use the services of specialized sites.

(I hope that helps)
Thanks Nono, I'll check them out.
My ban stick is covered in spammer guts :)
My sympathies........I am an admin on another forum, and it seems all we do, is warn and zap spammers.
We now even dont register them until we have checked them against Stop Forum Spam, but still they come through.
Log on and within 2 mins spam through their signatures etc - I dont know why they bother - who would actually follow the link and buy anything anyway? But that`s me I guess.
