Title: bass drum patches on mesh heads
Post by: Haggis-man on May 14, 2012, 06:37:34 PM
Hi all,

Don't know if this has come up before but I couldn't find it using the search. Is it safe to use bass drum patches on the 2box bass drum mesh head? Are there problems getting them to stick?

I'm asking as I've noticed a little bit of wear on mine and I wanted to limit the water before it gets bad. I'm using the standard 2box beater that came with the kit.

Thanks!

its fine to use em. actually you have to... but for me  no matter what falam i use, it affects the rebound... i hate it. of course i overcame this with my moms cover...
if you buy a patch, dont get the remo one. it is from such a plastic that the beater feels very strange on it. too bouncy. evans one was way better

Yeah, this type works excellent and are a soft Nylon kind of woven material, I've been using them for prolly 10 years. They come in double or single type:

Check out the aquarian super thin kick pad which comes in single and double kick sizes. Its thinner than their standard kick pad and also made of a woven material.  :)

Diamonds drums come along with a Drum Tec patch, it is of the same material as the Evans patch and works great too.

Had the Drum Tech one in my diamond drum convo only lasted 2 gigs and started to peel off, have tried home made ones haven't found anything that remains stuck for long enough yet.
Have a 22" kick was considering actually going back to a proper drum head only for the kick.

I have an Evans patch on my 20" mesh head. Been playing and gigging with it for a year or so. Works a treat.

Cheers,
Andy

Yeah, I've been using the Evans patch like I posted about in 2012 ...... usually with a Hart Magnum kick head ....... well, I've been using those same patches since prolly 2005 .... and never a problem coming loose. You definitely want to have the head tight before applying the patch, and it is not a bad idea to clean the area with rubbing alcohol before applying.
