Hey Steve, I appreciate the thought but don't worry too much about it.  I'm currently running two kits - an A2E hybrid that I use for gigs, and the original 2box rack that I keep in my practice space.  Right now I'm moving my hihat stand between both kits.  Ideally I'd just have a 2nd solution so that I'm not moving anything back and forth.  The best solution would be to just use the 2box hihat stand as I've already got it, but because of the rod diameter that's not looking to be an option.  So I'll just have to keep my eye open for either an insanely-wide hihat clutch or, more likely, a cheap 2nd hihat stand.

Thanks for your help with this!

Hey Steve, thanks for the reply!  The problem is that the rod is too big for the clutches I've tried.  The 2box rod is thicker with a texture to help the 2box hihat grip the rod.  The universal clutches I've seen seem to fit a rod up to 8mm in width, but I'm not sure if that's wide enough.  Just thought I'd check here and see if anyone had tried their own hihat on the 2box stand before I start throwing money at the problem!

Thanks,
Scott

Hi all,

I've got one of the original kits that came with the Drumit5 MK1 and I'd like to use my own hihat on the original stand.  The problem I have is that none of the hihat clutches I've tried fit on the rod that comes with the integrated hihat stand.  Does anyone know of a clutch that fits the wider 2box rod?

Thanks,
Scott

e-drum DIY / modifications / JMAN Hihat Mod Schematic
September 02, 2023, 12:30:58 PM
Hi all, does anyone have a schematic detailing how JMAN's hihat mod works and how it could be rebuilt?  I had been looking for a 2nd box with no success, so thinking I might be able to build myself a second.  I do have an original 2box hihat collecting dust, so it could be possible to scavenge the sensor if that makes it easier.  Thanks!

No problem E-Drummer - happy to help!  Unfortunately you'll also run into compatibility issues with the lemon hi-hats.  2box used a proprietary magnetic solution to manage the open and closed sounds, versus the 2 cable connectors used by Roland and others.  There are a couple of solutions that allowed users to use a hi-hat other than the original 2box.  The first was invented by JMAN on this board, and recreates the magnetic connection through the use of a magnet mounted to the foot pedal of your hi-hat, and a little black box sitting underneath (I've never been brave enough to open the box up to learn exactly how it works).  Sadly, JMAN passed away a few years ago (RIP) and so I think the only boxes available are those that other users would be looking to sell.  The other is a solution developed by the same Zourman who created the conversion module for the Roland ride.

This box will allow you to use a few different hi-hats, including the lemon hi-hats as I believe they work the same as the Roland hi-hats that the Zourman box supports.

Hey, I recently got a Lemon 18" ride to use with an original Drumit5 module.  Steve is right that you'll get two zones but not the third.  The Lemon ride has the two connections similar to Roland cymbals, as Roland achieves their three zones through two different cables. If you plug into one connection, you'll get the Bow/Bell which will give you all the sounds except the 'crash' when hitting the edge of the ride.  There's a couple of videos online showing that your Lemon ride may come with the wrong zones connected together, but it's a really simple fix.  This video should do a better job of explaining it than I can:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAe4m7QKOoI&ab_channel=65Drums

If you do want to get all three zones, Zourman has a conversion module that will let you use all three with the original Drumit5 module.  I've been happy with just the bow/bell, but just so you are aware there is a way to get the edge as well: https://zourman.com/products/roland-3-zone-ride-conversion-module-for-2box/

Hi everyone, I'm looking to see if anyone has a JMAN hihat mod box that they'd be willing to part with?  I've got one but I'm looking for a spare in case the unthinkable happens and I lose this one when moving my kit.  Thanks!

Hey Slamstick, I tried to send you a PM but it says you've blocked private messages.  Could you send me a PM so I can ask a question about the module?  Thanks!
