ok thanx for that. i have now the snare super tight but the kick tight, but not so much as there was too much rebound for my liking. i will probably use a stitch though i also have my moms sweater sleeve she made for my kick , lol
thanx

Hi, has anybody had any experince with breaking tom heads? I have had the original mesh for quite a while but had to replace it. Now I have had two new ones each break after 30 minutes of playing... Any ideas?

No they are perfect. Even tried different sticks each time. Both brand new.

it s possible that the edge of the tom where the meshhead sits , is a bit sharp ....  do you break them close to the edge ?? try with tour finger if it feels "smooth"

something eles ,  lowcost single ply meshheads , like pearl , tama or Tdrum are weak ...  in fact ,if you pay 2 or 3 time more for a roland or DDT one , it will last longer  than 3 lowcost ones ... at the same time , you ll  get sharper triggering and better stick response ...

I m DIYing drum pads , and for my first steps i used those cheap pearl & tama meshheads because had bought a bunch of them really really cheap ...  it was ok then but as my kit is finished now , i ve equiped it with DDT dual ply , and it feels much better ....

Based on my own experience , the Tdrum are by far the weakest , the tama and pearl last a bit longer , but all 3 have a shitty soft stick response and a too elastic rebound .....

I also had 2 of those heads heads with a default , causing them to break just after i installed them ....

Thanks for the info! No they break right in the middle. I'll check out the DDT 2-ply meshheads and see if this works better. Are they much louder?

i know i am resurrecting an old thread, but i think this is the best place to do it.

as you guys remember i wa playing with the stock kick pad mesh head, when i saw a bit of wear on the mesh head since the tennis ball beaters werent in love with my mesh. after a while i bought the roland double ply mesh head for kick. it sure triggered better ( i lowered the gain from 6 to 2) but after a while i started complaining about acoustic noise. some months later i started to use the pearl eliminator stock beaters (plastic side) and the noise got bigger. no matter what falam i used i always complained. and i was the only one. today i went back to the stock 2box mesh heads with pearl eliminator beaters (i didnt use that combination before.

noise is gone. i needed to raise the gain once again, and i notice a bit more rebound (mesh is medium tight perhaps i will loosen it a bit more...) but in general it is way better. had to share this with you guys. double ply for kick pad for me from now on, is a no no... on the contray, 2ply for mesh is awesome!!! anyway, that is all i had to say. cheers

ok since the feel of 2ply roland head and songle ply 2box head are really in my mind since it has been 2 days since i played with both, i have to make a comparison.

in order to have the feel i need, both heads have to be pretty loose. i almost not tighten them. i play with pearl beaters and also have that cloth that covers the 2box kick p[ad so that i eliminate any double trigerrings due to the beater rattling on the heads. (you all remember the pics some years ago with that red thingy lol)
double ply surely triggers better because i,n double ply gain is set to 2, but in single ply i have to raise the gain in 7!!! and still sometimes when i slide, it isnt loud enough with the single ply heads, while in double ply i had no problems it was loud enough. when i slide without my headphones one, i see that my double kicks are loud enoug so it has to do with the single ply mesh.
thing is i cant go back to 2ply (at least the roland one), since ther is too much rattling that i hate. thats mainly beacuse i do not tight themesh head enough in kick pad. if i tighten it, whether it is single ply or double ply, it makes no difference, the feel is unatural. to imitate the feel of an acoustic kick, i need it to be loose

so aftersharing those infos, that perhaps some of you already are familiar with, is there perhaps a double ply head that wouldnt rattle as the roland one, or is there a single ply head that is thicker than the 2box mesh, so that it could trigger better? (id preffer the second option). i will surely try the new heads of 2box when they come out to see if that solves it though i fear they may be too loud for the kick pad...

anyways, hope you find this info usefull

Murgen

Heya Burnin, I'm so busy drumming I hardly take time to post but I can tell you the 682 double ply bass-drum is doing the trick for me. http://www.682drums.com/2BOX---Mesh-Head-14-inch-p-16194.html

Less rebound compared to the original mesh, you can play with the tennis-ball and it feels like the real thing. Need a video to see it in action?

thank you my friend!! i wouldnt mind  video if you have the time, but it isnt necessary!!
well i have seen that 2 ply heads are better, but how is the rattling? i had my roland pretty loose (as loose it canget, 2 ply heads cant be that loose like the single ply ones) and it rattled. you know, the 2 heads made that rattling noise. if i had it tight, i didnt like the rebound. it didnt feel natural like an acoustic head.
so is your double ply head rattling or is it noiseless like the single ply stock head? do you have it tight? i will probabaly will try them soon enough. thank you
