i dont knwoif this deserved a new thread so apologies fot that beforehand.
prior to me buying sdse, i am upgrading my desktop pc. i just got 8 gb ram for it cheap and it works great. people told me that i should also get an ssd drive and install windows there, it will be superfast.
thing is that bfd2 superior drummer etc, take up too much free space.
so my question is if i can install bfd2 sd etc in c program files as usual but have the audio files of the programs, put in another partition or another hdd i have in my pc. has anyone done that? will it be a good idea or should i jst wait for bigger ssd drives so that i install in them what i need?
id really like the opinion of the bfd experts in here. cheers

Perico

Hi BA!
I have both SD2 and BFD2 sound libraries in an external HD and the programs in my C drive, and it works perfectly!

Jman

As Perico says, you can put your Audio files on a separate hard drive from the program, works well. If you add more and more expansions to BFD2 and SD2 those audio files take up a lot of Hard Drive space. I started off partitioning a second Hard Drive with about 450GB of space for my VST audio files, I have pretty much filled those up. I since bought a 2TB external Hard Drive. This thing just keeps growing!
I could tell you where to stick that piezo! :D ;)

good to know thank you guys. ill try and see if i can just copy all audio in a different folder and add the folder to bfd, or i simply have to wipe everything up and redo the install. i hope i will manage with the first option!!

you can just modify the paths in the BFD2 settings. remove the old paths, and add the new ones.

thank you for your replys.
the fxpansion folder in my c drive looks like this

the bfd eco folder looks inside like this

the bfd2 folder looks inside like this

the folders in bfd2 are these

so from bfdeco i move the audio  and groove folder in my d: drive inside a folder called bfdeco
from bfd2 folder i also move audio and grooves folders in my d drive inside a folder called bfd2
and i also move the data and grooves folders from the fxpansion general folder , in d in a folder called fxpansion.

and then i add these folder pathys in bfd2 program. if i do this will it work well? or will i have done something stupid? thank you. now i cant wait to get my hands in an ssd drive and start my magic!!!

ps. should i also move the kits  folder? it just contains these files
PER Morris Dancing.bfk
PER Morris Dancing.info
PER Morris Dancing.tga
which are inside a subfolder called factory.
thanx so much

Lustar

Here I put everything in a single "BFD2" folder.
You can have "Audio" and "Data" in the same BFD2 folder, or you can even move the content of "Data" in "Audio" and BFD2 will also find it.

BURNIN AMBITION

so i will be fine. thank you. about superior drummer and ez drummer
in ez drummer i have folders like this
EZX_Claustrophobic
inside it i have a folder that says sounds and also there are many many png files (photos). do i just move the sound folder or can i move the entire EZX_Claustrophobic folder?
in superior drummer it is strange as the audio is not in wavs format as in ezdrummer. i can only see in the sound folder files like this soundb1.obw
so i just as well move the sound folder?
in addictive drums the sounddata folder has many files in xpak format. do i leave them or can i move the entire folder with no problems?

perhaps my questions are stupid so i aplogise. what i want to do is move all audio data i have in d drive so that i see how big of an ssd drive i will need to buy. the less big the cheaper!!!

Always move the entire "EZX_*" or "SL-*" folder for Superior. You can move all of your EZX and SDX in a single "Superior Drummer 2" folder on D:, then make sure to set the path for all of them in SD2. You'll have to browse to the "Sound" folder inside each of them and not just the main folder to set the Path in SD2.

The VST themselves won't use a lot of space on C: if you move all the sound packs to D:, I'd say less than 200MB. If you don't plan on installing many other programs you could go for the fastest/cheapest SSD you can find. You could go as low as 20GB for sure if you trim down Windows 7.

much appreciated my friend!!! thnk you for all your help.
i am trying to set my priorities as to which i tems i need to buy first since my girl goes to the us and i need many stuff for my drums (small things but they add up),i also need a china from triggera and the ssd drive. and sdse. i just need to make sure the money is enough for the us, and then i am buying sdse and cant wait to start creating those dsnds!! yeaaaaah

while, i could find easily what you say about ezdrummer (i moved the entire folders as you said my friend,), i could locate such folders in superior drummer
the sound folder was in this location
C:\Program Files (x86)\Toontrack\Superior\Superior Drummer 2.0\SL-Avatar\Sounds
i couldnt see any "SL-*" folder.
also the files were in this format soundb1.obw
all of them were.obw
superior drummer files were 18 gbyte, ezdrummer were about 7gb, and in general there are far less gb than what bfd2 uses.
so i have to ask firstly, is superior drummer inferior to bfd2?
also since i dont have the folders you said in superior drummer perhps i have fecked up the install? (never really used it much as i used bfd2....)
thanx

why do you think so? this value only tells us how big the soundlibraries are (18GB in SD2, 7GB in EZdrummer, and ?GBin BFD2). The more expansion packs you have for each of these programs, the bigger are their libraries.

the folders Lustar mentioned are only the folders that contain the sound libraries (for sd2: folder "SL-Avatar" contains folder "Sounds" containing those ".obw"-files).
so you just have to move the whole folder (for example called "SL-Avatar")  to D: (or whereever you want them to be)

just don´t forget to add the new path to sd2! ;)

Lutz

ok i have to say that it was my problem with installations. bfd was easy to put in d. addictive drums was impossible, since when i installed it in d then the program couldnt find the files. its just 6 gigabytes so i installed it in c again and i am fine. for superior drummer i will try tomorrow. thank you all for your help and sorry for my stupid threads
