Title: Covers using the 2Box.
Post by: ROB219 on February 12, 2012, 11:00:44 PM
I like to do covers of songs that our band just won't touch... keeps my brain active learning new stuff! Anyway, since I came over to the orange side I haven't done a cover yet, until now!
The kit is not yet completed but there is enough on it to do this song.

If I do any more I'll post them up in here too.
Thanks!

1st cab off the rank... a short slow song. :p

Great playing. Did you use stock 2box sounds?

Thanks Allan!

Yep... all stocks sounds with some slight tuning tweaks. I'll have to check with instruments I used and post the list.
I am doing some of my own .dsnd files but I'm not all that happy with the results, so back to the drawing board on those.

That would be great. Sounds much better than my experiences with the stock sounds. Maybe I have to test them again...

Alright... I made 1 error, the snare is an SD 2.3 item, all the rest are stock.

Kit pieces are:
Hats - AAX_Xcel_14_HiHat    @  +0.7 tuning
Snare - SD2.3 GMS Piccolo
Toms - X_Shell 8,10,14,16
Kick - WAL_22_KICK_Ps_80    @ -1.0 tuning
Crash cymbals - AZ-16  (+.8 and -1.3 tuning)
Ride EU_20_Ride

Alright... been a while since I did one.

Nice easy song to test the new interface out!
6ch recording for this one.

really enjoed the song mate!!!
2 questions

first of all i see you use the 2box hi hat. what are u using under it? do the 2 cymbals touch each ither when you splash the foot? does it make any sound? do you reccomend it, or is it just for the good looks?
and also, what are u using to make the cymbals swing so much? i love it

Under the hihat is a custom lower hat I made, to make the standard HiHat feel better when playing it. Yes they touch when you splash it, I have it set to play just like a Roland electronic hihat (like the VH12)

The cymbal swing comes from not much dampening, it feels way better to play them like this! I just use regular felt cymbal dampeners on top and bottom and don't tighten them down.

They have rotation stoppers on them... I am not using 2Box cymbals but Yamaha items.
See the "spikes" poking up through the middle sections?

Hi ROB219,

Awesome kit and sounds! Do you use stock sounds or some BFD2 ones? Because I love your sounds.

Congrats.

David

Sounds good Rob. And your kit is triggering very nice.... and I agree, it is nice playing when the sounds are real drums and cymbals not sounds modelled to imitate real drums and cymbals! 8)

Thanks Jerry, yeah I am loving the kit! Best E kit I have ever owned sound and gear wise. Triggering on this kit is fantastic, and the lack of any real crosstalk is brilliant.

Hi David, snare is the GMS Piccolo from SD2.0, and the rest are stock 2Box sounds that I have tweaked to suit.
And....

I rarely change out my kit sounds in all the videos I do, in fact I think I only changed the snare sound and maybe the kick sound one time too.
The rest I leave the same and I'll alter EQ and compression in post production to suit what I want.
