continued bad luck with 2box

So, my latest problem with my 2box stuff is the module.  I had a few days off gigging, then set up for a gig and all of the outputs  didn't work correctly , they were all ( yeh, all 6 of them) sending out white noise at a very high level.  I tried using different outputs, turning down the line in level. nothing worked.  had to cancel the gig.  Anyone else had a similar issue? and yes , i have put an extension and the 32 gb card.

Thanks

QuoteIf I was you, I'd remove the extender and the SDcard from the equation, unplug the extender from the motherboard, and put the original 4gb card back in the SDcard slot (on the motherboard). Put the module back together, and test.

If it works fine that way the card and or extender is probably causing the problems.
I could tell you where to stick that piezo! :D ;)

update.  today , before i took it apart to take out the extender i thought i would plug it in the test it.  now it will not even power up, at all.  anyways, i took it apart and put in the original 4 gb card and still nothing at all when i power it up.

It could be the AC adapter. You could try a new one first if you want. A few people have replaced the AC adapter on the forum. Or look into returning your module under warranty.

Ill try that.  Any idea on the polarity i should use if i try with a universe power adapter?

thanks

It is a very specific adapter. This is one that works in the US: http://www.ebay.com/itm/6ft-AC-For-Electro-Harmonix-US18DC-500-Adapter-18V-500ma-Pog-Holier-Grail-Reverb-/221902009937?hash=item33aa63f651:g:iBQAAOSwVL1WDVLk

This is from the 2Box manual:
Please make sure the supplied power adapter has the right mains
voltage for your area. Do not open it or try to modify it. If another
adapter is used, make sure it has 18 VAC at 500 mA (9 VA) output.

Thanks, ill try and find one like that but for europe.

just make sure it's AC and not DC, as found on most transformers!

Coda

Also, it doesn't actually need the whole 500ma.

I built a PSU around a transformer which puts out 18.3v at 340ma. http://www.tme.eu/en/details/ts10_32/transformers-with-fastening/indel/
This trafo has two secondaries. I was going to use the 8v output to power a DIY headphone amp or mini-mixer attached to the 2box but I never got round to designing it, and it turned out I can do without it anyway.
This transformer has been tested in practice and used live for a few weeks now, and it works fine. It's about $5 for the trafo, $2 for the plastic box, $1 for the right-angled power connector.

You could also test your current AC adapter with a multi-meter just to see what voltage it is putting out if any before investing in a new one. http://www.2box-forum.com/index.php/topic,1968.msg21786.html#msg21786

Yes but be aware that it will probably read a bit higher than 18v without a load on it.

I should go and put a meter across my two PSUs.

Edit: The DIY PSU reads 23.2v, the original PSU 22.8v, both without load.

Jman

Yeah, you could put a load on it with a compatible light bulb, etc. I measured the voltage with a multi-meter on 3 different compatible US adapters with no load back in this thread:

Right, I remember that, back when I didn't have a 2box :D

It brings up a good point though, because the transformers are putting out AC, the output is purely a ratio of whatever the input happens to be. This can vary across country (and even state and I suspect, county, in the US).

BTW - I think I am imagining it, but I seem to be hearing some lag on snare drum. I've checked the dsnds I made from BFD3, (by splitting them and checking each wav) they seem ok... if it's real and because of my DIY PSU I'll have major egg on face :D

I'm not sure about testing latency caused by a power supply ..... But.....
One test that works really well when I test cards to see if I can cause latency:
Works best using larger VST type kits/dsnds,
Play a drum solo of sorts, snare, toms, cymbals, doing fast kick and HH footsplashes continuously. That tends to cause the most stress. After 5 minutes or so if there is a problem the sounds will lag or even cause sounds to stop/cut out. And when I say fast .... well, that is relative since I'm getting old and fast is not the same for me these days ....  ;)
