Title: Micro SDHC in SD adapter into 2box?
Post by: edcito on May 18, 2011, 11:06:51 PM
Hi there,
There's a wicked deal for a 32GB micro SD card on ebay for 1 day only. Can I put this in a SD card adapter and upgrade my module to glorious 32GB?
Anyone has tried?
Thanks

logic says you can. but it is all about transfer rate. perhaps i am wrong but micro sd seems to have slower transfer rates. plus not all cards are combatible...perhaps someone else could help you more. give us the link if you want

As long as it is class 10, and has a read speed of 20mb/s, write around 18mb/s it should work - theoretically.  But as burnin says, its not been tested with Micro SD as far as I know.

It's a sandisk class 4... so I guess is not suitable for the job then... Will look for a 32GB class 10. They are hard to find tho.

Not microsd, normal size SD, 32GB for £26.99.  Fast enough too.

thanks for the link digitaldrummer, but it doesn't specify which one you will get....

That one looks good, but wonder how much shipping it is to Oz?

Hi there,

will a suitable 32 GB SD Card be reachebal by USB?
Is USB somehowe limited by reading/writing a big card?
Does a 32 GB card require a extender cabel?

Thanks for answering

With a 32GB card in the module you will not be able to access it to make changes via USB. You loose that function. It will work in the module, but like I say you can't add more sounds, or do anything that requires connection to the computer. If you install a card extender it will give you access to the card using a card reader with the computer.

This process is at your own risk..... and could void the warranty.  It is a pretty simple process and I have been using my module this way pretty much since the day I got it .... But it is important to know, since eventually someone will totally screw up .... spill their coffee in the module during the process or something and brick their unit  :o

Now that these are much more ubiquitous and affordable, has anyone tried a microSD conversion? Using something like this:

i dunno why you'd want to use a Micro SD card instead of a full size card when full-sized SD cards of comparable performance are cheaper.

Good answer! The only thing that interests me is a Solid State HD replacement (SSD drive). But 2Box will have to change their design with a proper interface for that. And let them replace the USB-1 for a genuine ethernet RJ45 gigaport and Wifi too. :)

I was thinking for purely cosmetic reasons. Rather than having the massive SD case tacked onto the side, you could, if the ribbon is thin enough, run the microSD one out the back and hide it below the power switch.

+1 Murgen - I'm keen to find out more about the KAT 'Adam & Eve' combo based on a Muse Research module that will include a SSD: http://www.hellfiredrums.com/kat-pro-kit-wadam-eve-module-combo/

The Drumit5 module with 32GB SD mod is still very tempting!

You don't have to stick the card on the outside - one of the early adopters cut a slot into the case and mounted the extender on the inside. Looks very neat.

Yep...it does look nice. They actually make extenders that are made for this particular application. Toyed with the idea myself but decided it was more work than I wanted to attempt for my first try. Now that I've done a few...I just may give one of these a try with my next module. ;)
