Happy New Year to everybody!

Been tweaking my module settings to get everything just right, and

I've begun to notice that when I turn up the master volume (ie knob on brain) towards
max I hear a lot of hiss and hash in headphones.

Not a big problem and its not really noticeable in use, but it seems obvious that the kit
wd sound that bit cleaner without it.  I'm wondering if there's a bad connection somewhere

Anyway - I'd really like to know if everybody's kit sounds the same or if I really do have a
minor problem.  Please let me know!

thanks

happy nu year Slapper!

do you only hear the hiss after playing a sound, or is it always there?

oh, and what impedance are your headphones?

Hi Fishmonkey!

The sound is continuous background mush separate from any playing activity.
When I turn up the main knob on the brain past 12 o'clock it starts to get
audible, but using the internal gain settings makes no difference.

I wonder if you've got it with the headphone impedance though.....  I've just
checked.  They're active noise cancelling ones and the impedence goes up from
10 ohm to 33 ohm when the anc is turned on.  (At the same time if you don't
turn it on there's no real treble, so you cdn't hear the hiss anyway).

I'm guessing from your response that your set up is quieter??

cheers

oh, and P.S. , less of the Slapper, I seem to remember this being discussed
before  ;D

did you Try to lower the volume of the line input in UNIT/MIX menu ?...

On my module , it makes hiss , even if nothing is plugged on the line in ..

fishmonkey

have you tried some better headphones?

with 64 Ohm Sennheiser HD-280 Pros i don't have any noticeable noise if i'm not playing the kit.

ditto with 250 Ohm Beyerdynamic DT-880 Pros...

however it is definitely worth checking that you don't have something noisy plugged into an input, or the line input gain cranked right up, as mentioned above. if i crank the line input gain, then i also get noise.

fishmonkey

p.s. if you need to crank the master volume up that high with those low impedance headphones, you must be half deaf!

I ve got a  beyer dt 770M (80ohms impedance) ... real nice headphone , with 105 db , high volume and real good confort and sound insulation ...

Most of the time the volume is set at 3 o'clock on the module... for some kits , i even go "up to 11"  ...:)

I may be half deaf too

 ;D ;D
I love Spinal Tap - it has got to be the funniest film ever.

Anyway, thanks guys, I will check the line in gain - I tried unplugging what is plugged into it
but I didn't think to bring the volume setting down as well.

I have kept most of the trigger gain settings down around 0 to 6DBs.  Maybe that's why I'm
cranking the master up so high.  Thinking now I'll raise them all to higher levels anyway.

cheers

It was the line input
almost silent now.
