Title: NAMM 2014 .... what color were those 2Box drums?
Post by: Jman on January 25, 2014, 01:39:54 AM
Don't be alarmed .... It is only a test! yeah, they decided to see what the response would be to different color 2Box drums ..... I suggested they might try Black, White, Silver/Gray ....  ;D And yes as the links to US retailer ads that others have already displayed suggest ..... the 2Box kits and modules have arrived in the US .... a few days ago the containers arrived.(http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag19/JmanWord/2BoxatNAMM2013_zps5f213675.jpg) (http://s1296.photobucket.com/user/JmanWord/media/2BoxatNAMM2013_zps5f213675.jpg.html)

Gotta give him credit and after the word get's out some more, they will sell with zebra stripes and purple pokadots! The more I stick around, the more I realize that this guy is a real innovator and sharp as hell with e drums

*sigh.......I guess I'll continue to DIY for the look.  ::) Not a fan of the continuing "Rock Band" theme. If they would just make these polished or brushed aluminum...they would appeal to such a larger demographic and take on whatever color anyone wanted to light their room or kit with so these silly "I hate the color" conversations would just disappear. ::) Then maybe folks would concentrate on all the great things this module has to offer. ::)

I kinda get the shock value to gain exposure.....but isn't the bottom line sales? Let the module speak for the system....it's more than capable to do so on it's own without drawing unwanted negative attention.

A friend over here has a car workshop with paintfacilities. Will discuss the possibility to powdercoat the module casing and pads in the most sexiest way one can think over. Overhauling to the max.

The colors on display are good as a teaser. It says fresh, daring and exciting, like 2box. I always liked it in Orange myself but glow in the dark green or brushed aluminum would sure be tempting.

That would be nice, when using a sensible choice of colors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Shades_of_orange) of course ;D

I personally love the original orange, it's unique and bold. Having some really crappy skills in graphics I've tried to make a preview on what the 2box would look like.. No copyright infringement intended :)

The first is the original, second is supposed to be brushed aluminium but.. oh well :)

That is so cool.  I like most of them. It would be cool if they came out with interchangeable shell covers and module colors. I am sure aftermarket could pick up on this. If I wasn't so tech challenged, coming up with these might be the way up and out of the G. A. S.  causing financial mess I find myself in !

Yeah, just like a typical Roland kit..  ;D I've tried white but with my skills it looked so bad that I've decided not to post the results  :-[ I wonder how sparkle finishes would look like  ;) orange sparkle would be awesome !

A 'Pure White' finish will probably bilge (turn yellow) too fast, over time (in the same fashion Roland's silver-colored cymbals did). - that might be a problem...

I'd go with something 'Off-White'-finished to begin with - like an 'Ivory' color!

Depends on environment and quality of the paint. I guess the color White on aluminium will stick longer then the plastic coloured stuff from Roland.

Powdercoat on metal is much more robust that plastic wrap...that's why the use it on motorcycle frames and such. Most  any color using that system would probly outlast the pads themselves. ;)

...Just had a go at it and did a little fumbling around with the colors, as well...

Pure White:

Off-White:

...and here's a 'Cream'-colored finish:

I guess my imagination of 'Ivory' would be somewhere in the middle between 'Off-White' and 'Cream'...!  :)

I agree, I think the white would look good. Not that I don't like some of the multiple color choices you guys have shown in this thread, I do. But from a retail sales point I think something like white, black, or brushed nickel/aluminum ......something that didn't glow in the dark ;D  would equate to a lot more sales.

followed by a 'Lighter Grey', and the same 'Pure White' as above for reference:

The black and white look spectacular! Personally I would like to see full chrome. That's kinda what always caught my eye with the Hart Hammered series.....and chrome snares or wrap. Chrome always looks great and very high end.

Yea...that's because Black is classic and goes with anything. However glossy Black metal would sure be much nicer than black plastic...or wrap. :) However..I have always said that the raw brushed/polished aluminum would look great.

For the 'standard orange', I took exactly that - the picture of the 'standard orange' kit!
For the Black and Wine-Red kits, I took Nocternodrummer's versions, for the sake of convenience  ...slightly re-adjusting the color of the Red kit, to make it look more Wine-Red!

Danoh, Thanks for those illustrations of different color combos with the chrome snare and module . I like that look with the original orange and of course with black . When you are not too busy see if you can make that dark wine darker with the chrome and chrome unless we have to start paying, ya! Kudos, though bro,  and thanks again to you and Murgen for your ideas here! And Jman for starting this thread. Yeah, beautiful, Danoh . I am partial to the metal snare look as I am playing the Ludwig champagne sparkle kit with  the chrome snare that my parents got me in 1966. It is now electrified ala Jman and I love it !.  I am now a young, 60. How's that for cool? My next kit would definitely be a chrome or brushed stainless snare with 2 up and 2 down in the dark dark burgundy.

If we had like half shells like a drum tec diablo  or the Roland bigger shells , the colors could pop more because simply, there would be more to see so I can now see why 2 box wanted to break away from the black to really be unique. Anyway, the pads are the size that they are. I would really just like areal shiny chrome snare and module not even a brushed aluminum or nickel  just good old fashioned chrome!

Hmmm, How about Gold Sparkle pads & module with dark blue Mesh heads like Tutankhamuns mask. :)

I'll do it - under two conditions:

1. You make good use of that 'applaud' button, bumping my 'karma' up...

2. You tell me where you did get BLUE mesh heads from, and reveal the source to all of us...!

Do we have a deal?

I can definitely hit the applaud button, but the Blue mesh heads are only available in my head at the moment. Purely wishful thinking on my part. But  if they can produce them in black and white, I don't see why the head manufacturers couldn't produce them in other colors. Other than it's a limited market versus the cost of producing other colors.
heading for the applaud button now  :)

No doubt there will be some folks that want custom colors and I shutter to think...colored heads....but this seems more of a 3rd party customizing market to me for those that don't mind the outrageous "Toy" look. I hope if 2Box does venture into more colors that they take a more sensible approach to reach a wider demographic since e-drums can be considered a niche market already....or maybe have a  "special Custom Order" service in addition to their standard stock kits.

On that note of all these cool prints.....how about Hydro Dipping. ;)

Orange and Dark (Wine) Red with these two components sounds the same like I already did earlier in this post...

Sorry Danoh,

Got wrapped up with work. I don't think it is possible to show chrome instead of brushed aluminum that you have so nicely shown, but that's what I meant by true chrome and the dark wine has turned into a real dark, dark maroon now1 Don't pay any attention to me. I might be hallucinating , I'm not sure. After seeing the lizard skin, I thought I might be able to squeeze one more out of ya. lol

What I learn from this useful exercise with our personal Master of Colours is that the pads are relatively small and merely add a touch in colour. It would be great if the snare-rim would be standard chrome or just brushed aluminium - and as a result make the parallel to the acoustic snares. Change the colour of the module. Pianoblack looks cool, even with the orange display on the front, quite classy in fact. The others pads, I do not care too much but with a metal snare look changing those into metal as well or white would be my way to go.

On the other hand, it is my practise kit and it is the sound and feel that matters. The lightshow on the DSP-modules is drawing the looks, not the colour of the pads.

Those hydros are pretty cool too. I never thought I would say this but maybe after getting used to the orange, I really like it with chrome snare look, but I still think the ass kicker is the dark, dark burgundy wine and as they might say in Germanish,   Mit Za Chromenhoff snarenheizer. No offense my German brothers! Just going a little cu koo that's all !

DanohI dont know if it will let you make the maroon almost black red if you know what I mean with the chrome, now I see that I am saying red so you have been giving me red. Not red dark burgundy, like a 1967 Chevy malibu super sport, with a chrome snare

Here's a dark green (as suggested by Lustar) in a 'Green Glass' version:

Next, a purple color (as suggested by fishmonkey).
This one is a little textured. It's courtesy of Jammin' Sam drumwraps, and is called 'Purple Metal':

'Mirror Chrome':

Yeah, The chrome is hot. After looking at all the suggested combos I like the chrome on all the pads and module only with a black rack, but a chrome snare and module with dark burgundy, or black or even the standard orange  with either rack would be ok. I don't know that I would go back to those standard pads after playing on full size shells for a while again.

Title: Re: NAMM 2014 .... what color were those 2Box drums?

Hemi, the black rack will have to wait just a little...
It doesn't take my crystal-ball to forsee that this will be a whole lot of work (...just to get that rack separated from the background) ...and then, while the tubes may be easy, there's still the darn clamps to go black, as well...  :o :o

Chances are, of course, once you saw it, you realize just how 'Roland' it really looks, and a black rack suddenly isn't so appealling anymore...!   ;)

(...just as with the request of Orange cymbals, which just screams "toy-cymbal" and "Medeli junk")  ;D ::)

Nice Danoh, what do you think of that? If your not a fan of dark burgundy, what do you like? I definitely like the chrome snare or the more I look the brushed aluminum better,  combined with the other color pads. If I had a good buddy on this  forum, I would probably ask him for one last shot with the wine shimmer with the brushed aluminum snare instead of the chrome, but only if he was a buddy!

Not to bad!

What finish do I like? Hard question....really!
I wouldn't know how to sum it up in one word...

I like a nice natural finish, like on the lower-end Yamaha Stage Customs or the Pearl Visions (...the 'Natural Birch').

I also like Recording Customs in 'Cherry Wood'. There were RC's in Yellow, Blue, White - and while they all looked nice in Yamaha's catalogs, it was the Cherry-color that really became a classic, a standard, or an aquainted taste - a color that I've associated with RC's for the last 25+ years.

I absolutely *love* a nice wrap!
The older wrap-finishes on the lower-end Pearl kits - 'Ferrari Red', 'Pacific Blue', 'Charcoal', 'Mirror Chrome' (...and later 'Stainless Steel') - got me *drooling* in my youth!!! They do look a bit 'bland' by today's standards, though.

Tama never really did it for me, as far as 'Japanese'-finishes (or rather: companies) go...
As soon as they started with all the 'Fades' and the 'Bursts', they had me lost...

Later I discovered an interest in classic 'American' finishes  ...mostly after I found out that Pearls 'Strata Black' finish is actually a 'blue Ringo finish', akin to Ludwig ...and the Visions' 'Champagne Sparkle' was a finish originally done by Gretsch!

I'm a sucker for 'Sky Blue Pearl', 'Black Diamond Pearl' or any kind of Oysters. Also Ludwig's 'Psychodelic' wraps - namely the 'Citrus Mod' and 'Mod Orange' finishes!

They're groovy.... 8)

So you see, if I had to sum it up in one word, I'd say I like 'nostalgic' finishes. I can't be bothered with 'modern' finishes...  :o ::)

(okay.... what was that with the 'Worms' and the 'Cans' again...?)

HTH
