Quiet Kick Beater
« on: September 14, 2018, 07:27:39 PM »
Looking at options for a quieter kick drum beater.... (to reduce impact noise on the head etc.)
I know Thomann sell the proper 2Box beaters
https://www.thomann.de/gb/2box_drumit_five_bass_drum_beater.htm
How quiet are the tennis ball type beaters on the 2Box kick pad?
I know Thomann used to do their own Orange versions of these, but it looks like they are discontinued  :(
There are some on eBay, but quite expensive:

Not sure if these Cajon beaters are the same thing?
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vic-Firth-Vickick-Beaters-Cajon-Bass-Beater/332761868642

Also found this on eBay - anyone ever tried a 'silicone' beater??

G4M sell a Roland one that appears to be designed to be quiet:

Anyone tried that?

Any thoughts/suggestions appreciated....

are you using a MKI or MKII kick drum setup?

i'm using a tennis ball beater with a MKI setup and the sound doesn't bother me. i'm sure it would be a lot quieter with a MKII kick drum though. you can mod a MKI kick drum to be like a MKII setup btw.

Thanks,
Mine is Mk2.....
Tried a black Evans bass drum patch on it yesterday and that made it louder, so that came off again straight away!
Just read some posts about using moleskin patches so ordered some of that to try first (it's cheap!).
If that isn't successful then I'll look at some alternative beaters....
