2 box hi hat won't tighten on new hi hat stand

I went through the pages here and couldn't see anything about it, maybe i missed it.

It's a regular hi hat stand and the 2 box will not tighten enough on the rod.

Would using a sleeve inside work?

Maybe a new hi hat stand, but this is new and others i had before seemed the same rod diameter.

Main surprise is when the pin from wing nut key just inserts into the slot and doesn't physically touch the hi hat rod to secure.

Make sure you have the nut in the right way round, I did this when I got my kit and the cymbal wouldn't tighten either. Apparently a lot of new buyers do this.

That's exactly what i did, i realised it today ... doh!

what do you mean with the wing the other way around i have this problem but it looks like its correct
