Hold on!!! I just now see this! The Yamaha DTX502 Drum Trigger Module...FOR $269!!!?? Wait a minute, there has GOT to be a catch. Ok, I'm SURE some of you guys who are more tech savvy than me have seen and heard this thing and will surely tell me that the specs aren't that great and it actually kinda sucks...right? I hope so, because it looks pretty darn good to me!

Take a look at the top video on Amazon...

And take a look at the in depth demo by Steve Fisher. Wait a minute... didn't this guy sponsor Roland for years???

This thing (Yamaha DTX502) lets you sample your own sounds as well.... AND it multi-layers the samples too! Jman, Fulrmr, Lucstar, Murgen, hemiboy, peanutismint, All of you guys...tell me something!! lol

There's a review in the latest digitalDrummer of a DTX502-powered kit and our team is increasingly impressed with the DTX modules.
As for Steve Fisher - he left Roland last year after many years heading up the Vdrums division. He is now head of drums (acoustic and electronic) at Yamaha.

I'm sure it is a good entry module in that price range, but .... We're not talking about the same ballpark as the 2Box as far as capabilities of high quality internal sounds, or importing or playing sampled drums loaded in the module.  We're talking 2Box Gigabytes, Yamaha Megabyte. Here is the sampling stats of the DTX502, this is the maximum limit:
•Audio Import:
- Samples: 20 waves (maximum)
- Sample Data Bits: 16 bits
- Sampling Time: * Mono/Stereo 44.1kHz: 12 sec (mono)
- Sample formats: WAV, AIFF
I could tell you where to stick that piezo! :D ;)

I've played the 502 kit. It's a good entry level kit on par with the DTXplorer line but the new tech is of course much nicer. It doesn't hold a candle to the 2Box though....and although nice...even Roland's older  generation modules such as the TD-9(with VEX) still sound and play better IMO. I'm just not a fan of the new pad tech they have out now.

That said...the module price is right for the beginner on a budget. ;)

The sounds are horrible on any DTX module and machine gun like crazy. Nothing beats playing VST kits on a 2 box drum module. Its incredible, and its a shame 5% of electronic kit drummers have heard of it.
