DrumIt Manager: DKit Manager, DSound Tuner

I'm very glad to announce the release of DrumIt Manager! Thanks to Jman and Teletom007 for testing :)

Requirements
  • Windows 8 32/64, 7 32/64, Vista 32/64 or XP SP2/SP3
  • a screen resolution of 1024x600 minimum

DrumIt Manager includes DKit Manager and DSound Tuner.
  • Open .dkit files by double clicking them in your usual file explorer
  • Preview .dsnd files by double clicking them in your usual file explorer

DKit Manager

With DKit Manager you can Inspect, edit and make bulk modifications to your .dkit files.

DKit Manager features
  • Inspect, edit and save the contents of a Kit or Kit Bank in .dkit format
  • Open an existing Kit Bank or start from scratch with 100 empty kits
  • Organize the order of the 100 kits from a Kit Bank using drag-n-drop
  • Import one or several single .dkit in a Kit Bank (if multiple kits are imported they will be added after the current kit)
  • Export one or several single .dkit from a Kit Bank (can be used to split all kits from a Kit Bank to single .dkit files)
  • Preview .dsnd files by double clicking on the list of available .dsnd
  • Preview .dsnd, .wav Song and .dsnd Metronome from a Kit
  • Kit: drag and drop .dsnd and .wav files from your file explorer or from the lists to the Kit and Layout views
  • Kit: edit title, .dsnd, Song and Metronome values using text input fields (missing files are displayed in red)
  • Kit: copy and Paste kits in a Kit Bank
  • Kit: clear one, several or all kits from a Kit Bank
  • Layout: display user-defined pad names with a Layout system compatible with SDSE, edit and save your layouts with DKit Manager.
  • Unit: import all Unit settings from another Kit Bank
  • Unit: copy and Paste all Unit settings between several Kit Banks
  • Unit: reset all Unit settings from a Kit Bank
  • Rename: search and Replace text in .dsnd or Kit Title or .wav Song Title for all kits or checked kits
  • Copy: copy one or several kits and their .dsnd files to individual folders (useful to move one of the stock kits to another SD card)
  • Delete: delete one or several kit and all .dsnd files unique to those kits (useful to free some space without any risk of deleting a .dsnd that is used by another kit)
  • Swap: swap all Drum values from one pad to another, for all kits or checked kits (useful to convert the stock DrumIt.dkit to your own layout or if you change your layout)
  • Check: check Kit or Kit Bank for missing .dsnd and .wav files, duplicate and long filenames, unused .dsnd files
DKit Manager evaluation version
  • Open, inspect and preview the contents of a Kit or Kit Bank in .dkit format
  • Preview .dsnd files by double clicking them in your usual file explorer
  • Check a Kit or Kit Bank
  • Edit and save the Kit Layout used by SDSE
  • Set the current Kit Layout to be used by SDSE: select a Layout to set it as the current layout before exporting a Kit or creating a .dkit file with SDSE

Organize your kits

Drag and drop kits in the list.
Select one or several kits to export as single .dkit files.
Import one or several single .dkit files at the current kit position.

Drag and Drop .dsnd and .wav files

.dsnd and .wav files can be dropped from the lists on the left of DKit Manager, but also from a file explorer like Windows Explorer. If the file is not contained in a sub-folder or parent folder relative to the Kit Bank you have opened you will be able to edit settings but won't be able to preview the sound.

Missing files displayed in red

DKit Manager displays missing .dsnd and song files in red.

You can copy and paste .dsnd names between input fields (CTRL+C/CTRL+V) and even revert to the previous value (CTRL+Z).

The particular shade of red used in DKit Manager to mark missing files is the "psychological red" as defined by the Natural Color System.
Natural Color System (NCS) is a proprietary perceptual color model published by the Scandinavian Colour Institute (Skandinaviska Färginstitutet AB) of Stockholm, Sweden.

Layout system

Set up your layout to match your kit. You can manage up to 4 Layouts for up to 4 DrumIt Five modules.

When saving a Kit Bank the current layout number is saved in the .dkit file. The next time you open your Kit Bank DKit Manager will display the correct Layout.

Edit pads and pad names using the editor. The Layout system is compatible with SDSE
When you export a kit with SDSE it will create a .dkit file that matches the last Layout you have selected in DKit Manager.

DSound Tuner
With DSound Tuner you can change the maximum Tune of existing .dsnd files.

  • Change the Max Tune
  • Limit the sample length to get smaller files.
Can also be used to remove the noise at the end of some .dsnd files
  • Add a reverb effect

Browse or drag and drop one or several .dsnd files, select new settings, click Tune. The new values will be appended to the filenames.

Hi Lustar, I have a question. I downloaded the program and it looks really useful but I have a question so far. I opened one of my saved dkit files and the program is telling me that a tom dsnd (that I know is there) is showing (in red type) as missing. Is this a function of it be a demo version or ?
Thanks, Tony G

Thanks for the kind words tom, Jman and makoki :)

Hi Tony, I'm sending you a PM with a way to make sure about that file.

welshsteve and Drum2, I have good news for you, there may be a way to make a version that works on Mac. It certainly won't have have all features (like drag and drop) but I started looking at it and it's a definite possibility. Another way is to use a small virtual machine with shared folders, there aren't any memory or version requirements so a very light version of XP would work. I couldn't try it but it probably works in vmware fusion in Unity mode, if it does it would be the best way to run it on Mac for now.

New versions of DKit Manager and Dsound Tuner are available

Thanks to the first users of DKit Manager 1.0 for their feedback!

DKit Manager 1.0.5:
  • It is now possible to preview different velocities when clicking on the instrument buttons on Kit tabs (left for lower, right for higher).
  • If the current .dkit is stored on a removable drive (SD card) dsnd files are searched starting from root.
  • F5 keyboard shortcut to refresh dsnd list
  • dsnd list refreshed when a filter is used
  • dsnd list refreshed when dragging a .dsnd from explorer (file must be in a parent or subfolder of current dkit to preview it)
  • missing files updated for current kit when dsnd list is refreshed

DSound Tuner 1.1:
  • setting to limit the sample length of existing .dsnd files
This can be useful to reduce the size of .dsnd files like cymbals and hats from larger VST libraries.
  • setting to add a simple Reverb effect
Quickly make alternate versions of your kits with reverb without exporting again from a VST or splitting/building the .dsnd again.

A new version of DrumIt Manager is available

It is now possible to display and edit all of the DrumIt Five Unit settings from your computer.
You can also save and print a text or .csv report of all of your kits and Unit settings.

Thanks to teletom007 for testing :)

DKit Manager 1.1:
  • edit all Unit settings
  • create, save and print a text report of all Kit or Unit values (.txt or .csv)
  • fader group list is updated when fader names are changed
  • improved Attack, Hold and Decay to be accurate to the module
  • Layer set to Top plays the top most velocity
  • handle long filenames the same way as the DrumIt Five module but with a warning:
.dsnd and .wav files with names that are too long can be previewed and are marked in Grey
  • handle corrupted .dsnd file: bad .dsnd files are marked in Yellow
  • changes to current kit are applied when Copying a Kit
  • improved Kit Preview
  • optimized kit loading speed
  • faster start up after installation

How do I load my kit bank from the drumit module
« Reply #13 on: November 23, 2014, 12:08:44 PM »
I have downloaded the software to my PC and attached my Drumit5 module to my PC.
I previously modified the original 100 kits on my module but when open this software the 100 kits show are in the order shown on this topic ie starts with 1 Drumit LIve Kit etc.   How do I load the actual content of MY module rather than this one.

If the kit list is empty you may have an older version of the DrumIt Five OS, before 1.20. I have updated the download on my website to support older versions now.

To see your kits you have to open the DrumIt.dkit file from the module, it contains the kit bank and all unit settings. Click Open, browse to the DrumIt.dkit file. You can also double click on any .dkit file in the Windows Explorer to open it directly with DKit Manager, it works with kit banks and single kits.

DKit Manager 1.1.3:
  • Kit list: it is now possible to select multiple kits with Ctrl or Shift (to drag/move multiple kits or quickly select a range of kits)
  • faster Print report when getting Sound values ("+++")
  • support for older DrumIt.dkit versions before 1.20
  • fixed issue with Decay values when editing Decay and loading a different kit
  • Thanks to Teletom007, BertS and Jman for testing :)
