Hi everyone,

I'm no specialist when it comes to sound engineering and home-studio setup, but I recently had to set up a bunch of instruments at home for the first time and had to do a fair bit of homework to understand how it all works at the most basic level.

I wrote down everything I learnt along the way in plan, which I thought might be of help to other rookies out there.

If you happen to be good at this stuff, don't hesitate to let me know if I made any mistakes or if you have a tip you want to share.

There's a listing of my gear and associated manuals at the start so you'll have to scroll down page a or so/

Cheers,

Nice work on that. Some useful info in there. Thanks

I found this thread after searching for some pertinent info, I'm about to do the same thing. I found your notes useful, and at the very least I will do an evernote too for all my gear and setup.
One thing I noticed is that your jgp of your equipment says "Balanced Input" on the 2box. This isn't correct, but I am assuming you just meant it takes a TRS (Stereo) jack.

I honestly don't remember buddy, I wrote this note a little while back. I did mark the output as unbalanced (blue circle) using a balanced lead (TRS - red).

I actually now have the laptop rigged to the mixing table as opposed to the 2-box, and always use balanced leads across the board.  Either I meant that input on the 2box was balanced, or that the signal coming out of the computer's sound card was balanced. But I couldn't tell you whether either statement is true or false.

Thanks for the feedback though, and I'm very happy indeed it helped someone!

Well you inspired me to write up my planned studio setup in Evernote. It's still a WIP but this is the gist of what I want to do, not everything I have is connected up on the diagram, and I plan to build some midi controlled synths in the future (which is the reason for the 6 out midi through box :))
