hello all. since now i have started getting into montuno left foot clave etc. i thought it would be great to have an electronic trigger in my left foot to trigger a wood block etc.
for my left foot i need only one zone. so i was thinking. wouldnt the cheapest sollution be, to use a trigerra krig and mount it on the stock 2box kick pedal?
would this work and would the outcome be ok?

also i wanted a cowbell (well no kit is really great without one lol)
but real acoustic cowbells have 2 sounds they make. so i wanted to emulate that in a cowbell triger. but i havent seen a dual cowbell trigger apart from jmans. but i want the 2 zones to trigger like in a real cowbell to emulate the momevent of the stick. aka edge and bow if you get what i mean. so i would want a, e cowbell that has the shape of a cowbell and have one zone on the edge and on on the bow. is there something like that available? if not can it be constructed? and any idea how the triggers should be placed?

if not it get a nanopad i guess. cheers and thank you

'lectric Moo2....

I can't think of much else in terms of a good cowbell substitute other than the 'Cowpaddy', 'Hammer', or the old DDrum 'Tube' at the moment - Cowpaddy isn't shaped like a cowbell, DDrum Tube isn't dual-zone, Hart Hammer isn't in production anymore...

wow i am stupid. i had seen it and i thought jman had transformed a bell cymbal in to an electric cowbell lol. jmans lectric moo2 is exactly what i need. ill go check his site. it seems amazing. though i am kinda worried for postal expences and customs lol
iam so happy that what i want exists!!!. thank you

ps. no info on jman 's site about lectric moo2. only the single zone version of it..

How ya doin my friend?
On the dual zone cowbell. That can be done. I built a dual zone Lectric Moo last year:  http://www.vdrums.com/forum/forum/performance/showcase/66572-stealth-lectric-moo2-dual-zone-cowbell-trigger-pics-and-video-demo

Also the guy that builds Cowpaddy has a dual cowpaddy:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijXtSxgdcCk

The one I built is a Piezo/Switch type pad, so it requires an input like the cymbal inputs of the 2Box module. Not many people would be willing to give up a cymbal input for a dual zone cowbell trigger! ;D

I never followed up with adding the dual zone Lectric Moo to my choices mainly because there is not much request for that. So I never tested my own over an extended period.

The dual cowpaddy works like a dual piezo pad, so it would take up a full tom input to function.

The other small problem is not all cowbell sound choices in sample libraries offer both the edge/shank sound and the top/alt/hit sound. All of the 2Box cowbells are single zone. All of the EZ Drummer Percussion pack choices are single zone/articulation. Out of the libraries I have I think the one cowbell from BFD2 and the one cowbell from BFD3 have both articulations. I would guess the cowbells in the BFD2 add on Percussion pack also have multiple articulations.
You would definitely need to build dsnds with both articulations.

Hope it helps, J
I could tell you where to stick that piezo! :D ;)

i am great jman thank you. i hope you are great as well.

thank you for all the usefull input. i do not want the double zone cowpaddy as i would want to be able to hit both zones with push pull technique if you know what i mean. so my only option is yours. and yes i have an open slot of tom 4 i dont use!! hehe. but the lack of dual zone cowbell dsnds is discaraging to be honest. i ll look more into them. if i decide i will build or have dual zone dsnds(dunno what i have lol), il try to get yours. hopefully some friend of mine from the us will come to greece in the summer so... otherwise i think it would be too costly for me if you shipped it to greece. but when there is a will there is a way. i saw your video of dual trigger cowbell was really nice. thank you very much my friend!!!!!

hi BA

if you plan to use JMAN lectromOO dual zone , you ll need to use a cymbal input , as it is a PIEZO/SWITCH trigger .. tom inputs are PIEZO/PIEZO ..

By the way , roland cy5 or 8 , PD8, 7 or 6 are PIEZO/SWITCH triggers ... so maybe it could be a cheap alternative for you as you can find them easy close to your location , if a 8" pad isnt too big for you ...  makes also another pad for other sounds ...

A second  alternative could be to use another cheap midi module .  One that can handle PIEZO/SWITCH triggers , then you can assign it to the midi notes of TOM4 in the 2box module ... Or use the built in sounds if you like them .
If you have money to spend , the new Alesis sample rack would be great ( the one Jman spocked about last month ) as you can put your own multilayer custom sounds , and add more than one perc sound ...

If you cant find a dual sound cowbell , i think it is very easy to record one by yourself , with a simple SM57 oe 58 and a regular soundcard ... add a tiny roomverb if needed in a DAW and voila ... you can record it in a regular room , as you have no long tail like cymbal sound , that needs silence to be usable .

IMO , you d better use a PIEZO/SWITCH trigger , as zone discrimination is much more accurate because of the switch .

have a nice day

BURNIN AMBITION

thank you edtc. jman also pmed me to explain this!!!
i had misunderstood everything. by the looks of it, i will just turn to the solution of one zone cowbell.
probably i will get a nano pad. ill see what i do. thank you all for your contribution to the thread.

last question. for left foot clave trigerring. should i use a pedal (probably the stock 2box kick pedal) with krigg, or is it better to use another nano pad for instance, that will be hit by a beater? any ideas?do the nanopads respond well when hit by a beater? any ideas? if krigg will do the trck just fine, perhaps i get one. but nano pads seems to be too cheap.. dunno

once i finish with these upgrades (could take some months due to money issues) ill post a great picture of my set.cheers

Yup, if that Alesis Sample Rack turns out to have half way decent amount of velocities you can use, it will be great for things like this ..... adding a few extra pads, percussion ... etc...

You wouldn't need a whole bunch of velocities for cowbell dsnds IMO .... maybe 8 minimum per articulation ...

Here's a list of VSTs that contain a cowbell with two zones:
Metal Foundry SDX for Superior Drummer 2
Rock Warehouse SDX for Superior Drummer 2
BFD3 stock library
BFD2 stock library
Abbey Road 70's
Abbey Road 80's
Modern Drummer
Studio Drummer

All of them are supported in the latest version of SDSE so if you have any of those you'll be able to easily export them as a single .dsnd containing two articulations. SDSE can also export to separate .wav files (1 sample per .wav in separate folders for each articulation) so it will be possible to load them in the Alesis sample rack if it supports .wav files.

Also the cowbell in stock BFD2 has both zones.

Thanks for the heads up, I added it and updated the download :)
