So, I went ahead and bought a few auctions of these..... Take a look at my link, there are 2 different sellers. Do not buy any of these if they are in the type of packaging you see in these sales, they are FAKE, not Genuine. The performance speeds are about 10 times slower than the Genuine. The Labels are not the shiny Gold original ... a fake yellowish embossed label..... Just thought I'd mention it before you waste your time. They are FAKE CRAP!

So, stick to the Genuine Lexar in original packaging is my suggestion!

Thanks Jman for this useful post!

The packaging is very strange yes, as there is no mention of Lexar brand anywhere and the font of 'Memory Card' is very 'cheap'.

FYI, the genuine package looks like this:

He makes a big emphasis on them being the real thing and the auction says new and in original packaging. Also says returns accepted, and even if it didn't say that you are covered if someone is misrepresenting their auction.

Post a picture or 2 of the cards and packaging after you receive those. I will post a pic of the genuine next to the fakes here also.

I had my suspicions on those cards I just showed as fakes before I bid on them, but bought them at $20 -$23 apiece on auction .... so took a chance hoping somehow they were real and the sellers had bought somehow in a large lot without retail packaging and repackaged them. But those were definitely FAKES!

I have already arranged returns on my FAKES.

So just chalk this one up as another "taking one for the team" for me. I did the same thing last year, buying a fake (too good to be true auction) Sandisk card for the 2Box  ;D

I bought it from the same guy as you BA  ... it came without package send from Riga, Latvia.

It has an engraving in back and was made in Korea. I loaded it with a backup from the original SD but haven't tried it in my Brain yet. It looks more real then the fake one in Jmans post but we only know when we try it with the 2-Box.

Ran a little test on my Mac on the card with AJA Systemtest ...

Jman or BA, can you run such a test on a Windows machine with the same software or this application:

Hate to say it, but it doesn't look good, to me anyway. Every one of the 8 Genuine/Original cards I have are engraved on the back exactly like the one in the pictures I posted above. Each card identical except for serial #s. Each card has it's own different serial #. It may not be super obvious from my pics but the front label gold is that kind of gold that looks like gold plate if you know what I mean.... not like just a gold color .... can't tell what yours is like.... My card looks more like a good copy of the original package, far from goldplated.

I'm checking Wiki now and the 133xspeed equals with a 20.0 MB/s read speed. That is the Read speed the card clocks. Write is much slower, 6 MB/s in a second run. But AJA is designed to test foto/video transfer. I will send a mail to the seller and consider sending the card back.

BA, just send the guy the next e-mail:

Dear originalmemory,

The 2-Box digital drums user group shares info on specific cards as the Lexar you sold to me. The 2-Box drum-computer has very specific requirements and does not function with any card. I have issues with this card and I'm told the card you send me is not an original. The engraving is different from 8 confirmed genuine Lexars, the front is different (less goldplated) and the performance is not as expected from a Lexar in combination with the 2-Box. At least one other 2-Box user will be very disappointed because he bought one from you too.

What can we do to solve this issue?

Kind regards,

I keep you informed and have 14 days left to return mine.

Without doing extensive testing inside or outside the module I think the 1st thing to look at is the time it takes to load up everything from start up of the module. With the Xtension cable installed in my module .... my cards have close to 30GB on em .... I have 2 drum modules ..... I can push the button side by side on my modules and the cards will load everything in 7 to 8 seconds identical time either drum module. I could do that over and over with any of those 8 cards and it will be identical .... I think that is one of the key things about these particular genuine Lexar cards, they have fast Read Access time.

We have tested cards with higher and lower Read or Write speeds that don't cut it, our modules are very particular especially about that Access time, a spec you will rarely find listed for any SDHC cards because that is not a very important spec for most modern digital cameras or camcorders.

So if you load up your card with your 2Box files. Plug it in .... if it takes longer than those 7 or 8 seconds to load that could be a bad sign.... J

I just ordered a Lexar from a genuine shop in Holland. If all goes well it will be delivered tomorrow and I will be able to run the same test on a genuine card. I keep you posted. I will also post a fake - genuine photo like you did. Now, this shop is in Urk and Dutchies know Urk is a weird town ... so, maybe they send me another fake  :o

(I have not yet decided if I keep this (former) demokit or swap it for a new one when new kits arrive, so far I consider keeping this kit, it works well and I love it but that is the reason why I have not yet deployed the SD-extender).

One thing on the labelling that could be a give away .... If you look at the shiny gold on the label:
Even on the box picture and on most pics you see on the web you will see the shiny Gold Swoosh band above SDHC 10 .... with the other part of the Gold in a lighter non shiny color. But every genuine card I have the Swoosh is not the Shiny Gold ... the Shiny Gold is below the Swoosh. Even on the Lexar website you'll see it the other way, but when you get one and open it up you'll see what I mean .... It is no wonder that when people try to copy the label they copy it with the Swoosh in the Shiny Gold, cause unless you actually get an original you wouldn't know...

Not sure if they ever changed that labelling at Lexar, but mine are definitely originals in Sealed retail packs, serial nos, etc. Bought from reputable big name retailers like B&H Photo, and Adorama Camera.

Cannot copy and paste on this iPad but I get me refund, they claim to buy from wholesalers in Korea and China. Well, there goes ebay for our source of SD's.
