my drum teacher (what a great dude) gave me for free 3 rolands. so i need not find beroken cymbals and make ecymbals from them. he gave me 2 cy-8 and one cy-5. he told me they didnt work in his, but both cy-8 triggered fine in my 2box. both edge and bow (i checked it from the brain) and also the choke. cy-5 is completely broken though

some questions. firstly, i will add these by splitting the toms. so if i am guessing correctly, all of them will work as one zone but with choke. am i right? there wont be bow edge different sound, both will have one sound. am i correct?
when i split them and assign to them the rim sound of the tom, will i have to change the rim sound from all the kits i have?110 kits that is?

and the most serious question. anyone has oppened before a vy-5? should i add a piezo underneath it, or should i open the cymbal and check inside if something is cut or replace a trigger from inside
? anyone done that before? thanx

no you cant have choke with a mono input

yes

yes , do this ... it should be better ...

The CY-5 is probably the easiest to fix since you simply unscrew the box on the bottom and look inside. In all probability, you're looking at loose connections, but at worst, you may have to replace a piezo.

ok in cy-5 i see a wire cut. i oppened it thanx to all for the info. i will fix it propably tomorrow. a friend will sold it.i just hope the piezo is ok. the cy-5 is in a bad condition. imagine that i need also to glue the rubber on top. but since i will use it as a splash i dont care. the other 2 cymbals, at a first glance seem to work fine. i have to check them better though. my teacher told me they are about to fail or so, so i guess they cant be in good condition. are the cy-8 as easy to fix? i havent oppened them yet since they seem to trigger. i am awaiting though for new clamps and arms, so that i put them on em and test them properly

once again thanx to all you guys

hahaha - i doubt you are stupid BA!!!  They just connect wires - you mentioned that a wire was cut, so i thought of these. You just put each end of the wires in to the connector, and, with a pair of pliers, squash the connector in, and hey presto, the wire is joined. - I used them when i had to connect a new piezo on my kick, and it was very efficient and works well. Good luck!

sorryi didnt know about these things. they sure can come in handy!! but unfortunately not in my situation, as the cable is cut in the end of it, so there is no 2 pieces i have to join. only solution is soldering. will do it probably tomorrow. just waiting on my buddy to fix it. then i have to buy 3 cables and 3 booms and clamps and i am done. bad thing is that they arms and clamps are expensive. i hate greek stores. oh well.
the more bad thing is taht after seeing roels kit i also want a 4th tom so that i can later put a forth cymbal. hahahaha

They will work as well. Splitting on 2Box don't require speciai cables, just Stereo Jack to Mono Jack x 2.
