General 2box Drumit 5 forum / Re: who's gigging their kit?
« on: April 02, 2016, 08:21:36 AM »
I have played a handful of gigs with the 2Box kit.
Found the 2 box cymbals very flimsy and the rack
Showing signs of wear.
I have had a tama maple kit converted by Diamond drums which now is perfect I mount my cymbles
On proper stands and just have to take the module.
It's a 6 peice kit which I can decide in venue size etc
How much or little I want to take and it looks stunning.
Not as expensive as you think either.
It enables me to leave the 2 Box stock kit set up at home permanently for practice all I do is connect the module.
I have a Jman 32g expander and can slot in SD,s of what ever I like I have home headphone monitor system mixes and SD,s with live mixes where everything goes on seperate outs to the desk.
Lots of possibilities in fact endless. 👍

Thanks for sharing will give it a go I'm currently setting my
Levels to take the kit live I'm using Roland 2 zone 14,s for the crashes a cy8 to alternate between crash or China and 1 of the 2 box cymbals for my ride which I am very close to perfecting.
In my opinion the Roland's crash and wash so much better and are so much more durable than the 2
Boxes. I've played 3 or 4 gigs and have split one and find the rubber on the edge of the very sharp
Edge of the cymbal comes off a lot.
I am by no means a hard hitter the hi hat is my biggest prob.
I will use acoustic hats until a revolutionary
Development is available without paying a fortune for lots of extra gear.

This may sound silly but as you know J I was using a iron cob 2 legged HH stand
With 2 box hats. The cob has a fixed felt for the bottom hat ( magnetic sensor ) to sit
On and I was getting all kinds of trouble.
I didn't realise until I set my kit at home with the original 2 box stand with a metal
Disc for the sensor to sit on how much more responsive the hat was.
In all fairness it is still awful but it did improve.
Just something I noticed that may help folk?

Yeah thanks have pondered on custom made
But not yet, I really enjoyed the sound of the Sures but the fit was awful
I prefer the the push in type as to the wrap around the ear jobs.
Maybe I'll purchase a decent set of push ins at a slightly higher value with good reviews see how it goes.
All the review seem to be for people jogging or cycling etc, not gigging
I find it strange.

Hi Fellas,
Just a quickie, has anyone that has been playing live us IEM's.
I started with the SURE 215 set but couldn't manage with the over ear fittings and the buds on the ear pieces were awful so I tried a cheap pair of LD Systems ear buds which fit well but as our sound grows and the monitoring has become more detailed this pair have started distorting slightly so I am looking out for a pair of plug ins that don't go over the ear that can reproduce the quality and definition from the different ranges from the bass and the kick drum to the keys and cymbals snare and the vocal , just wondered if anyone has similar needs and found a recommendable solution?
Also if the Sure IEM's, higher up the chain have better fitting because to be honest the sound quality was superb.
Cheers 👍

Hi again,
I am playing live tonight and tomorrow I am currently sending a kick to the desk bus 1 and the rest of the kit bus 2
I want to send all the cymbals do I select eg bus 3 for each cymbal then bus 4 for the snare
Then I have 4 outs to the desk.
Do I leave unit out 1+2! As is or without looking at the unit yet do I need to change that as I now have 4 outs?
Thank you I'm in a bit of a hurry and have left it last minute,
But any help would be great, thank you.

Hi fellas just hooked the module to the pc, all the pads
Kick snare 2 toms are full and I can tap the rim
Etc on the snare and toms all set as 8 pad or 10 pad on the toms
The floor Tom .... Tom3 was also set as this
But on the graphic on the editor it is 2 smaller pads overlapping.
Changed to X pad made no difference.
I haven't been in the settings before hand regarding pad types etc
So I am quite baffled. ????

Cheers J.

Jman, while you are here,
I was adding a couple of cyms and toms but wasn't much room on the module. ( you can tell I am proper new to all of this tech!)
So I just removed some files I wouldn't use, but still didn't leave a hell of a lot of room.
I e heard about your 32gig expansion.
Sounds like a winner to me,
Went to see Dave at diamond drums yesterday he is converting
An acoustic kit for me which I'll use live through the 2 Box Mod,
So the opportunity to get some wicked kits on there would be
Any links to it mate please?
Very very greatful for all you guys help 👍

Ahh, right so if that is the case I could add a cowbell or whatever to that 2nd pad underneath?
I wasn't aware that was possible with 2 box?
Thanks for that, I'll try to get it back to normal, then seperate them again to try the cowbell idea.
Cheers! 👍

Hi Guys,
Just put my editor on to drag a few new drums and cyms on their.
My floor Tom pad on the editor is 2 smaller overlapping pads?
Everything else is normal.
Checked the pad type in the module all looks
The same?
Thanks in anticipation 👍

Hi Jman,
Just got your e mail and this reply.
Great great advice sir!
Will give this all a go and see how things will work out and let you all know.
Thankyou everyone for your time.
As a side note, I have been using the 2Box as my live kit, started with the pads and caustic cymbals as
I didn't trust the e cyms but now am fully,
Electronic. My only concern ( apart from the damn hi hat!) is the durability of the 2box gear being carted in and out of venues and the back of a car etc.
It is already showing signs of wear now.
Have noticed the Jobeky kits and the shell pack seems reasonable and my thoughts are leave the 2 box kit set up for practice and then just disconnect the module and take that to gigs along with the Jobeky kit and e cyms.
Anyone know what they are like to play with regards to sensitivity and dynamics?
Basically do they work and do they work well?
Thanks Guys.
Can't wait to adapt my playing style even more 👍
