The DDrum Legacy / Re: dd4 sounds on drumit.....

Update! Got some good feedback!!

The ddrum4SE tool actually do as it is supposed to! Your assumptions were right paul707. We do see a problem in the rimshot file that all layers have been set to the same velocity. What will happen then is that the ddrum4se tool exports everything to the same file and overwrites the same filename. Only layer #1 is exported of 8 times...

I tried to find the right string in the mid file which handles the velocity for each layer´(based on the ddrum file info)...but I have problems to find it...but we will see if I am able to hack it.

Hi!
I had to try myself converting an old ddrum4SE sound to 2box dsdn format!

Using the ddrum4wav.exe tool will convert the ddrum4se.mid files to a bunch of wav files (mono 16 bit 44.1 kHz) in the same folder as the mid file.

The process is to drag any ddrum4 mid file and drop it on the exe file (Yes, strange hack...), and you get all wav files extracted. It will take more space than the original mid file since the ddrum4 format is compressed.

You can then use these files directly in the DrumIt Editor 1.06 by creating a new sound - select snare...and drag the snare and rim wave files to it's areas. Save! Done!

Test example
I have always admired Mel Gaynor - drummer in Simple Minds. There is a kit available on ddrum4SE which he has designed...

The ddrum4se sounds were recorded in the Galaxy studio in Belgium, during the autumn of 2000. All Signature sounds were played by each individual drummer. The drummers use their own typical setup with drums and cymbals. Rumors tells that Mel used a Premier Kit (model Resonators or Black Shadow drums) with Zildjian bronze for that recording. It's their tuning, their choice of drum heads etc. From each session Clavia carefully selected and processed the sounds and tailored them to fit the ddrum4 drum system.

You can download my converted Mel Gaynor Snare for 2box in DSND format(8 layers...+ 1 layer rimshot) at:

I hope these sounds are not copy protected - this was just a test to see if this works - only snare have been converted - not the whole complete kit.

Hi!

I had to check this. 1.06 supports single kits. You can build a standalone kit and export(export function in the editor)it to a dkit file. Just take this file and place it in the on the SD card with the DSND files. It will show up after the first 100 as a standalone kit.

If you want to continue to change this dkit...you can import it again in the editor(using import)...but know the editor forces you to pick one of the 100 predefined entries to load it. I am gussing if you just do the export again to a standalone without saving the predefined dkit bank...you are safe.

A real nice editor for building kits is Lustark Drumit Manager. Here you can do more - cost a bargain! https://www.lustark.com/drumit-manager

all!

Just wanted to hint about the latest edition of digitalDrummer Magazine (August 2018)

As usual you will find stories and reviews like the Roland TD-17 kit, Medeli's new YoDrum and the story continues about the mesh head comparisons with four more from Prism.

But the real reason to read it (in my opinion) are that you will find some interviews done by Allan Leibowitz(Editor) and his visit to STOCKHOLM / Sweden in June where we met 2box (at the owner Bengt’s home) and XLN Audio (creators of Addictive Drums) at their brand new office.

All that in the latest edition which is still free.

Hi!

I am pretty convinced that the orange color used on 2box is RAL 2009 - Traffic Orange . (RAL is a color standard for manufacturers) - I am using that color on my boxes.

Converted to RGB 222, 83, 7 or CMYK 0, 80, 100, 0 and the Pantone is 172.

Hi!

There is a real old tool developed by Rik (Deve Loper) called ddrum4wav. This is a DOS based tool which can convert old ddrum files to wav.

To be able use them in 2box you need to use the DrumIt editor and dragon the wave files and convert them to dsdn files.

Hi all!

I recently made an instruction video for 2box on how to configure, optimize and tweak their new DrumIt Three module with Roland's hi-hat VH-11.

2box had the kindness to post the video it on their Facebook page.

https://youtu.be/xpxzzEuJopg

There is also a written QuickStart guide available to read more about how to deal with hi-hats on DrumIt Three:

I know 2box will launch a new website soon...the software will probably be included there...

Hi!

I have for some time been working to get the fantastic active optical hi-hat from ATV to work with 2box DrumIt Five and Three. (On a customer request - not the cheapest the solution...but if you want the best hh...)

For the DrumIt Five, a conversion module is always required but for DrumIt Three, which natively supports Roland hi-hats (ATV aD_H14 emulates VH-13) a conversion module is also required.

The reason for this is the active ATV hi-hat controller sends out a voltage range instead of a resistance range to handle the open/closed states. This fools the "Three" module completely, but with the Zourman Drums Conversion module for ATV hh - this can be solved.

Have a look:

Hi,

I had to try myself...

Yes, you can send pad information over midi to trigger the hi-hat sounds and on the same time control these hits with a pedal directly connected to the Drumit Five. (Using the Zourman Hihat Conversion)

I think there is no limitations with the RHH 135.

(Could it be that the Hihat only have 8 fixed positions going from closed to open somebody refer too?

Hi!

I was testing a lot when I created my Roland three zone ride conversion box for Drumit Five.

I was using 5M and set the threshold below 36. For cy-15R I even went to 32...to get some good results. But this was for the Five...check the manual: https://zourman.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/ZD_manual_CY-1XR.pdf

I have also a three...let me check what my best settings was here...
