Title: Next shipment!!
Post by: Scottie on August 04, 2009, 10:38:28 AM
Hey Guys

I wanted to give you an update on the next shipment. We are looking around the 2 month mark. It could be shorter then this, but i would rather give you the worst case, then say a shorter time scale and it doesn't come in. On the plus side the next shipment should be much larger in size, so we should be able to take care of all pre-orders.

If i get a more solid ETA i will let you know.

Thanks
Scott

Hi Thijs

In the Netherlands and Germany we're waiting for the first kits to be released from
the distributor Hyperactive
I don't know why the kits haven't been sent already
Perhaps they will add a personal note with each kit  :-\

So, there isn't a shop with a kit on stock, at this moment

Thanks, I'll wait for a bit then.

Hi thijs,
I'm from Germany too and I ordered mine yesterday from Great Britain since I need an electronic drumkit very urgently and I don't want or rather I'm unable to buy one from another manufacturer. All the shops on scotties list are pretty cool and I guess they would deliver to Germany too. The guys from Hyperactive told me they would need some weeks to put the set to the acid test but I guess that's simply a lame excuse.
Title: Re: Retailers with stock!!!
Post by: TrommelTheo on August 05, 2009, 03:45:54 PM
that couldn´t be true, cause no one needs a couple of WEEKS to test, only a Couple of HOURS!!!
there must be some other explanations...
or do you think, Roland Germany will test their Kits for a couple of Months before they send them to the shops???
not really, or?

Hey Guys

I got to speak with Hyperactive in Germany today about their plans for the drum kit. What they are going to do, is release it to their dealers so they will have a display unit on show for people to try. Then when the next shipment comes in, they will then start being able to fulfill peoples orders.

Hope this info helps

What is wrong with orange?

Nothing wrong, I'm sure most people will like it, just won't workout for me. It won't stop me from buying when they come to the states if all the bugs are worked out and I was hoping to get some thoughts on making a color change from someone who's thought it threw.

Post by: a700256 on August 21, 2009, 06:55:53 PM
With regards to the orange and black colors, I have to agree that there are some out there like myself that would prefer a black color option - at least the rims and brain.

In the USA, orange and black colors are usually associated with either the Halloween holiday or highway construction zones. Take a look at the pictures of the kit, then close your eyes and try to imagine a gloss black finish on the rims, brain and possibly even stands and hardware. It would have a stealth look with a very sleek luxury to it, like a black stretch limousine.

This may be a cultural thing and don't get me wrong, I would still want one with the current color scheme. However, if they ever become available in a black color in the future, then my orange and black one would end up on ebay. Time wake up and go back to work!

I see it more along the lines of nature's warning signals: beware - killer drums ;)
Still, a ninja 2box kit would be pretty damn cool.

Hi Puttenvr,
A number of days has passed since you have got your kit: could you please share with us your opinion? I have read worrying messages about the hi-hat, cymbals and stand in other posts. What can you tell us after these few weeks of use?  ???

Thanks in advance and ciao.

Title: Re: Next shipment!!
Post by: puttenvr on September 02, 2009, 07:46:17 AM
Hi

First, I am playing the DrumItFive at home and (at this moment) I am not using it live. When I will use the kit on stage, I shall change the rack. With this I don't say that the rack IS weak, but it LOOKS weak to me. Setting it up, felt like dealing with a toy. But once the rack was set up, it stands, and does its job quite good. It shakes a little, but not much and it doesn't affect your playing style. My acoustic drums do shake, too. Sometimes I discover a T-bolt wing nut of which I thought I locked it tightly, but (a) appearantly I didn't locked it enough or (b) it loosened itself a bit. In general: no major problems with the rack.

I don't have any problems with the cymbals, but they sometimes do play a little heavy. Perhaps the rubber covering dampens some light stick hits. I noticed that with some cymbal samples this problem is bigger than with others. The edge, bow and cup do trigger seperately good.

I don't have huge problems with the hihat. It's certainly NOT the most sensitive hihat around. The ddrum hihat was better and I played Roland hihats which were better. On the DrumItfive I have to raise my leg quite a lot for an open hihat sound. And sometimes it misses that sound. In other words: the hihat works, but it should be improved with the next software update without a doubt.
I don't have any problems with the hihat stand or bassdrumpedal, but I CAN imagine that some heavy players have. These hardware parts are not the strongest parts of the kit. I doubt if they will survive 10 gigs. For home use, they work.

The snare/rim triggering needs some adjustments. The RIM has a nice metal sound (probably you hear the trigger when you hit it). When you play the RIM and HEAD together there is a RIMSHOT. For playing a RIMCLICK you need to assign a x-stick sound to the RIM and adjust the GAIN and TRESHOLD settings on the RIM. In this case a RIMSHOT will sound like a snaredrum plus x-stick sound. You can also assign a separate rimshot sound to the RIM. But in that case you can't quickly change to a rimclick. E-drum companies struggle with that part.

In general: this is the best e-drum kit around, but some parts certainly could be improved!

Has anyone got some up to date news on the next delivery to the UK music shops - particularly on the quantity being shipped out?

I've finally got mine ordered after a lot of stalling but I don't think I'm anywhere near the top of the back orders list so I'm worried that I'll miss out this time.... and obviously that means Christmas won't such fun at my house!   :D

Hi HowlingWolf

Congrats on your order  ;D
The latest info that we have is that the shipment should be hitting the German warehouse next week, then they will be sent on to us. We are planning to have kits in to the english retailer the week commencing the 14th.

I would like to say a BIG thanks to everyone on here, that has been waiting very patiently for their kits.... we can see the light at the end of the tunnel :)

Thanks

Read on a Dutch forum

"The hihat stand is cheap – so we already decided to use a stronger sturdier hihat. We have also added a part that makes the stand stable, this will be added free of charge to these first kits. The hihat spring is also to weak so this will be improved. The feel of playing the hihatsounds is a bit different than you might be used with – now was the hihatcalibrated? Its seems that the retailers have missed this. So check that again please. What is it more precisely that you don't like with the triggering? In general I can say that you need to move the pedal a little bit more that you would on a regular hihat to change the between the different open sound layers. (there are 4)

-Yes and the 1.0 will be released in about 1 month time. We are chasing an irritating USB bug."

I read about the cymbals somewhere....

I don't know how much of my hat technique I can change. I can get around on the yamaha and the Roland hats. I'm not sure I can take anything less than that. Is the 2box that much different? I may be making to much of this. It's not very clear just different than your used to.

Hi Everyone

The next shipment will contain the new Hihat bracket, which current owners can get free of charge. There is also the polycarbonate rim, which was switched as it is easier for 2box to manufacture, so they can start ramping up the production to help with the demand that we have experienced. The triggering behavior on the poly rim pads is the same as the first batch. I'm not sure where the talk about improved cymbals has come from, but the cymbals are exactly the same on this shipment as the last.

Alex: Here in the UK we will be receiving our kits sometime next week, and we are doing everything we can to get them in as quick as we can. The day they come in they will be sent out to retailers that have the kits on back order. We only use an over night courier service, so people will have the kits over the Christmas period  ;D

Hope this info helps

Regards
Scott

Alex: Here in the UK we will be receiving our kits sometime next week, and we are doing everything we can to get them in as quick as we can. The day they come in they will be sent out to retailers that have the kits on back order. We only use an over night courier service, so people will have the kits over the Christmas period  ;D

Hope this info helps

Regards
Scott

Hi Everyone

The shipment hit Germany last week, and the UK this week. Boekhour did you have a kit on pre-order?.
I would suggest contacting the germany distributor Hyperactive: http://www.hyperactive.de/cms2/ (http://www.hyperactive.de/cms2/) who should be able to give you some more details.

Thanks

I've just one question to ask you.

I'm in France and i've ordered last saturday a 2box for the 25th january's shipment. Do you think it will be available?

I will NOT wait anymore without playing drums and if it's not yet available I think I'm gonna order an ALESIS DM10.

As far as I know, in the near future there is only one shipment to come and that probably is coming to shops this week. Whether there will be kits enough for all of us or not, I don't know. I placed my order in August and there are many others that have ordered well in advance as well.

2box is definitely worth waiting. I think it's not a good idea to buy something "almost as good" just because the best one is not available at the moment.

What is the reason of those small deliveries? I thought the 1st shipment (which included my kit) was the only small one and production should be on full scale in december. But this month another small shipment hit the floors. Will the January shipment hold a large bunch of 2Box kits? Just want to know in case that I will order my 2nd kit.

I was wondering one thing. Somewhere in this forum I saw they are changing the hi-hat stand or the construction together with the rack. Plus I heard they will replace some alimium parts for other material.
Good idea to come up with improvements but does this also impact people that bought the first delivery of the DrumitFive?

If not, we will get punished by being to greedy in the past and better could have waited for improvements?
Or am I ahead of things right now?

Thanks!

Apparently there was a new clamp developed to hold the HH stand and the rims are now poly-carbonate.

1st generation users can get a replacement clamp as far as I am aware, but dont know when these will be in stock.

As for Poly-rims - 2Box R&D have said that there is no difference whatsoever in playability or sound or function - it is just a bonus for the manufacturing process.

i dont like the idea of plastic drums... sounds much cheaper and less durable. polycarbonate is just common drinking-bottle-plastic. If the polypads are worse in any way i dont know, but aluminum just sound sturdier.
i am glad i got my hands on the aluminum release. Does anyone know if there is any difference in looks between the two pads... i am planing to expand and i guess i have to get plastic pads from now on

I've had some chat with Scottie about the pads as was concerned that the aluminium may react different to the poly-carbs, there's absolutely nothing aesthetically wise (you can't even tell) and they function exactly the same.

Now I don't know if either carry a manufacturers warranty in event of failure, I don't know the lifetimes of alu vs poly. And obviously playing style would effect that?

'The main advantage of polycarbonate over other types of plastic is unbeatable strength combined with light weight. While acrylic is 17% stronger than glass, polycarbonate is nearly unbreakable. Bulletproof windows and enclosures as seen inside banks or at drive-throughs are often made of polycarbonate. Add to this the advantage that polycarbonate is just one-third the weight of acrylic, or one-sixth as heavy as glass, and the only drawback is that it is more expensive than either acrylic or glass.'

Google is a wonderful thing - drinking bottle plastic?  Sorry but I disagree Mr.Inn...

What's going on with shipping to the United States? Who is the distributer and when will we see individual kit pricing?

Hi 3drum

All the info you are looking for with regards to the US will be announced soon. Things are moving forward, but i think 2box wants to make sure that it gets the right setup for the product first.

Thanks

polycarbonate:

"Typical injected applications:
compact discs, DVDs, Blu-ray Discs
drinking bottles
drinking glasses
lab equipment, research animal enclosures
lighting lenses, sunglass/eyeglass lenses, safety glasses, automotive headlamp lenses
MP3/Digital audio player cases"

I like google too :)

I stand corrected on the drinking bottle plastic Mr.Inn!  However, my main point was you suggested that this material may be cheap and not very durable.:

Quote from: mr.inn on January 17, 2010, 09:53:05 AM
i dont like the idea of plastic drums... sounds much cheaper and less durable

I take issue with that, since durability is a measure of how long something will last without deteriorating

Polycarbonate is not a particularly cheap material, however since polycarbonate is incredibly strong and at the same time flexible it will be perfectly durable for its purpose.  Is material used for bullet-proofing not durable enough for you?

Thats why I'm disagreeing with what you said.  Hope thats ok.

dont worry about it, Baby Samus :)
poly is used for bulletproof glass. thats because it is transparent and stronger than regular glass. alu on the other hand is stronger and more durable than poly, if that wasnt the case there would be for example... poly-downhillmountainbikes instead of aluminium ones (im not planing taking my pads for some downhill adventure but still). i was only comparing poly vs alu, and i do agree... poly is durable, but less so than alu. it is also cheaper than alu.

At the end of the day the material will be durable enough for the purpose they were intended for, and anyway the shells are still aluminium.  I'e been playing away on my kit for 2 months now and there's barely a mark on the rims.  Polycarbonate might also be easier on your sticks than aluminium.  :)

Yes the material has been changed to one that is cheaper to mass produce, but it is strong enough that it should make no difference to the end user.

My point here is that unless someone has tested the polycarb rims personally, they should not speculate on how strong they may be.  Just let the owners of the second batch kits tell you how strong they are.  We should be giving forum readers accurate information (whether negative or positive) and not speculation.

My kit has the polycarbonate rims, and having spent many hours on a 1st generation demo kit in the shop with the aluminium rims, I can't tell the difference tbh. I can't imagine either type breaking unless you're the incredible hulk, and I'm pretty sure there's no difference in terms of response.

Today me and some friends got in the car and drove 3 hours to test on the demokit in Arnhem. Well, we got a bit dissapointed  ???  :-[ by the 2box.

1. the rack was very instable We also tested a yamaha and a roland kit but their rack seems a lot
more durable to us.
2. the hi-hat triggering was very bad and the stand also.
3. the snare stand was very instable
4. the Bass-pad was whiggeling all over the place. My little brother had a double basspedal on it and the left beater sound lot softer then the right beater sound.

The sound of the 2box was very good though!
Can anyone tell me about the 4 points that are above? Did 2box improve these points? :-\

Thank you!

Walter

I'm sure the rims are fine. Might even be a better material for that job. But you can understand why replacing something that was metal with plastic could raise some red flags when there is talk of cheapness (undeserved in my view) of the hardware.

Hi Walter

Did you tighten the snare stand, and do you know if the Hihat had been calibrated?
From your feedback Walter, it does not sound like this kit is setup correctly!

yes I think they didden't setup the kit correctly just like feedback rotterdam where I played the 2box kit.

Well i dont know if they did set it up correctly i do think so actually.
And about the calibration i'm can't do that again because the shop is a bit of drive.

But maybe someone can put a video online where he (or she!) shows the hi-hat, with some double and triple beats on it. And also the open to tight close sequence, because yesterday we experienced a true or false (open or close) feel with it.

About the stand if you are the position to go to Arnhem (Eiland Muziek) you can see it for yourself i can't give you any footage of that. It's a great shop though very nice and helpfull crew there.

What about the other points of my post some has some news about that? (the bass pad for example) it's so wigglywoggly to us.

Again thanks for youre reactions appreciate!

Kind regards!
:)

Hi puttenvr

Thank you for the reply! Also no problem with double bass pedal on it?
Well actually it's very strange to see a demokit thats not in a good shape (in my opinion) and hear about the good stories on the forum. But it sounds hopefull!

Is their anybody in the neighbourhood of Emmen who owns a 2Box? I'm very curious how one feels when its set up properly then. And i'm still very curious about the hi-hat triggering. :P

Kind regards!

The Hihat triggering is already improved with the software update and can be furthermore improved with a studier pedal.

hi walter, i use a double kick pedal on mine...i do find the left beater triggers more quietly, but it's down to the position i think. when i get time i think l'm going to try and mod the pedal's clamp or make some kind of packing piece so i  can mount it so the beaters are the same distance from the sensor that lives under the striking pad. i don't play blast beats, for me the double kick is more for the occasional heavy fill (big primus fan :)) ...i think for the serious metaller, i'd recommend testing the 2box with a bunch of pedals to see which is most compatible....or wait till you can buy extra pads, and play 2 kick pads through a 6.35mm jack splitter into the kick input.

I got a  reaction of Bengt of 2Box:
In february there will be pc software and the sound editor will be available in april. Also will spareparts come in april (so then it would be possible to get additional items).

I'll wait to june to buy one i want to see the further improvements on the 2box.
And i will also wait off the reaction on roland to this market penetration by 2box.

Thanks for your time!

Kind Regards,

Walter  :)

Wbrs, I can see why you were banned from the v-drums forum now.  You are perfectly entitled to express your opinion if it adds to a thread.  But your posts tend not to.  In effect what you are doing with this statement is calling me a liar.  You are entitled to have that opinion, but it is not an opinion that one should express publicly on a forum, because all it does is cause bad feelings between members and doesn't bring any form of enlightenment.

Noone here is trying to stop you from expressing your opinion, but not all your opinions should necessarily be expressed.  As for trying to squash discontent, I think the only thing that should be squashed on here is people posting about a product they don't have.  Hopefully that will clear things up.

I'm not too fussed about the software editor really, it will come when its ready and I'm sure it will be great.  There are plenty quality sounds on the module already to make loads of good kits with - I couldn't add anything to my old Roland TD-8 module anyway so I'm used to it!

I am talking about the likelyhood of ridicule when you express discontent. Which doesn't bother me but maybe others. Baby Samus openly admits he thinks if you don't own the kit yet your posts should be squashed. That seems to be a consences. What say you?

Hey guys,

Don't worry, it will be worth the wait!  I was reading about 2Box for over a year till the actual release, but I hadn't sold my v-drums in time to catch the first shipment and I was gutted!  Finally got my Roland sold and got a 2Box before christmas - 2 months in and I'm still so pleased with it - it's a pleasure to play on and listen to.

My advice?  Pass the time practising.  When I had my Roland the COSM modelling sounded so fake I just didn't feel excited or moved when playing it towards the end, like it wasn't really an instrument, or if it was it was too blunt.  The 2Box is a lot more playable and emotive.  More like an instrument!

BUT WAIT - THERE IS A DOWN SIDE!
Now I have to practise more to do the 2Box justice. When people hear the kit sounds so good, they expect only a famous drummer like Dave Weckl or Steve Gadd could have such a lovely sound and therefore expect me to be a legend!  Unfortunately, they are wrong  :D.  Damn you 2Box!  Damn you!!

Logihack if you have needed a kit for so long, why didn't you preorder a kit? It's not 2box fault that you didn't do this. Can't always blame a company for something when really they haven't done anything wrong! Are you telling me that nintendo weren't ready to be in the Market when the Wii first came out and god knows how many shipments it was sold out for. Think of the size of Nintendo and how long they have been around, 2box is a new company that has literally just brought a product to market, it's going to take them time. Yes it's a pain but i don't think you can purely blame them, when if you needed/wanted a kit so bad you should have pre-ordered no?.

HM, are you sure about that ETA?, we've started to speculate and blame 2box and each others.Yes, it's frustrating...nonetheless, we don't know yet if it would be 6 weeks from now or from NAMM (i.e. 2 weeks ago). That gives us end of Feb. This week the Swiss distributor told me that he is expecting a shipment by end Feb with probably a set for me (that would fit with 6 weeks since NAMM) but I ignore if that is the shipment supposed to be this week or not. But honestly, I think distributors know sth since at least 2 weeks and no info about it has been published either in the 2box webpage or here.

U'r right, but there have been too many delays and some people are getting sick of all of this, and we should try not blame each others.  We knew this is a new product, hence delays in production might appear. maybe you are right, but anyway...preorder? a prototype set? no thanks...even now they are changing the set and doing on the inprovements...why? becouse the first shiping wasnt so good and even now they are still working on drumpads, hardware etc...i think that is unprofessional and it would be better if they sort that kind of things first...usa is completly different market place and they know that...2box will start selling in us, when everything will be ready(i think so)...they promised(at first), vst suport, 3 types drumheads, drum editor etc...the set is here, but like i said its prototype for me...stock sounds on module are ok, but rack and pads arent, if you compare it with yamaha dtxtreme3(2000eur) or td12(now2200eur)...and if you are looking the kit for vst use(like i am), roland or yamaha are better solution now, when they droped the price on the 2box level
and im not blaming 2box directly, but i realy dont care if this is a new company or not...im a customer who pays fair for the product and i think i dont need to preorder a product that other companys, have it already in stores, where i can even test it...they let the set to soon in the stores and if you are fair you know that im right...this 2box drumset is great on the paper, but its still unfinished product and some promisses from the start were blown by the wind...

Hi Scott, for sure we know you're busy with all the stuff at Hand in Hand and we do appreciate everytime you help us with info and custumer service. However, I , and a lot of people, would like you to tell us if you know sth about this new delay. 'Cause as you might see people are getting impatient, even more when we don't get feedback and it seems that distributors know sth since NAMM; so if you know what's going on, it'd be perfect to post it here rather than in a PM.

For instance, once you told us when you had the kit in your hands and you uploaded some pics (July 29, 2009). As the shipment was expected for this week....do you have sth of this new shipment? or, when is the new shipment date?...thx,

ferney

HM, are you sure about that ETA?, we've started to speculate and blame 2box and each others.Yes, it's frustrating...nonetheless, we don't know yet if it would be 6 weeks from now or from NAMM (i.e. 2 weeks ago). That gives us end of Feb.

Six weeks from NAMM, that's what my local dealer said me yesterday. He had called the distributor last week. You're right, there is a possibility that this delivery hits the stores already at the end of February. And of course this information is accurate for Finland only.

Hi Ferney

I understand your point of view on this, but sometimes distributors and even 2box get new details sprung on them, when it comes to shipments and delays. I haven't posted any news yet, because we have been trying to nail down from 2box when we can expect the next batch and i didn't want to give you a date, and then that comes back and changes.

OK, I have just had a chat with Bengt to get the latest news and we are looking at 5 weeks for the next batch to come in.

I hope this info is of some use.

Regards
Scott

Hi tjemeu

tjemeu: This will be the third shipment of kits.

puttenvr: When you say enough kits, do you mean so people can visit a shop and they have stock? or it is simply for spares?

Thanks

Hi Scott,

Yes, that there are a few shops in Holland and Germany who have a kit on stock
Not like Roland (who forces shop keepers to have all kits on stock) but a few in every country

And yes: I desparately need a single module and additional cymbals.

I got an email from Hyperactive (Distributor for Europe) that the second shipment has some delay. It will arrive on the 8th of march in Hamburg and if there are no problems with customs it will be in their warehouse a couple of days later. Delivery will take place in the third week of March.

Original mail in dutch:
Er is wat vertraging opgetreden.
De volgende container komt 8 maart in Hamburg binnen.
Aangenomen dat de douane geen problemen heeft, zou deze een aantal dagen
later in ons centrale Europese magazijn gelost kunnen worden.
Levering zou dan plaats vinden ca. 3e week maart.

I ordered from my local dealer in Finland. The Finnish distributor obviously didn't receive enough kits (if any) in the previous shipment, even though in UK there were so many kits that some dealers could have them in stock for a while.

I don't see any issue here as regards it being difficult to buy a kit, because considering the amount 2Box are able to manufacture at the moment, its not.  If you wanted a kit but didn't order one or pre-order one in time, its your own fault really - no offence but it is.  I bought one without trying it out, and I'm very happy.  I simply called Andertons in England, they were getting 24 kits in (2nd shipment) and 10 were for people who missed out on the first shipment, leaving 14 kits for sale.  I just put my name down and a £100 deposit, and the kit was with me next day delivery after the shipment arrived.  13 other people would have done the same - they put their money down in faith.

The difference I think is that I made a decision to buy one, and I accepted that there may be problems.  I read as much as I could into the kit, watched all the videos, read the comments from the drummers that tried it at Musikmesse in 08, and made a decision.  You can only research so much before you have to make a decision you know?  Do I buy and accept the shortcomings or do I wait?  What problems are you afraid of finding?  Can you not ask owners on the forum about potential problems that you would especially like to avoid, helping you make that decision?

Sure you could try it in a store for an hour and have a reasonable impression of the kit, hardware, sounds and playability, but to be honest to get the 2Box tweaked how you like takes a lot longer (took me a good week or two to get it playing just right for me).  And how many of these stores have it set up correctly?  How many have them plugged into quality headphones or amp?  How many have not setup the rack correctly giving users a false impression?  Have they set the gain and threshold correctly for the kit you are trying?  Are the skins tight enough for how you play?  Are the mix settings at the right levels etc etc etc.  In other words, trying it in a shop might leave you with a bad impression, but if you tried my kit I'm sure you would be impressed.  The rack is solid.  Everything works fine.  None of the heads have cracked or burst.  The module is great and simple to use.  Its very sensitive.  But you may get a completely different opinion of the same thing in a shop because its not been set up as well.

Once you get to know it though, its just awesome - it begs to be played which was not the case with my Roland set.  In short its an awesome instrument for a great price.  Sure it has some minor issues, but the positives far outweigh the negatives.  Just buy one.  You'll love it.  After a few weeks of ownership, I was very happy with it, and I still am.  I didn't try it, I just bought it on faith and used the information at my disposal.  I'm not rich either so it was not an impulse buy.

If there is anything you want to know, like a list of questions you want answered to help you make the decision of whether to buy one, I'm sure all the members of the 'Exclusive Owners Club' *  ;) will be happy to answer...

*(just kidding!)

I agree with Baby Samus.

This is gonna be my very first E-drum. Since 1 year ago I was thinking about it. Of course the first things you see around are Roland and Yamaha, I gotta be honest I didn't know well the difference between CMOS and sampling. I mean I knew CMOS is modeled and sampling tends to be more realistic, I just start watching vid's and reading at forums. I was about to buy a TD9 when in vdrums.com I saw sth like "...check out for 2box, that's the future of e-drumming..", so I decided start looking around. I wasn't expecting this to be a new product, I thought there were a lot of kits on the stores to try it out...but oh surprise, it's new and not so much info (compared with Roland and Yamaha).

Anyway, I decided to order it 'blindly'. There are a lot of things I still ignore about it (for instance, I still don't knowing how load is its acoustic noise, if somebody can tell me  or post a video...I'll do appreciate it); However, I consider those things natural in ANY thing we buy, there's not perfect device, gadget etc. (IMO). Everyday I'm more convinced that pre-ordering it was a right decision as well as I like those 'challenges' that spice up your life... (like my linux..., BTW is there any midi-recording software for linux??)

Nonetheless, we gotta accept that some people are just that happy testing before buying..

I bought one without trying it out, and I'm very happy.

And I wouldn't buy any musical instrument that costs this much without giving trying it first. Luckily there was one pre-release kit I could test. I compared it to TD-9 which had the same price and decided to get the 2-box.

Plenty people buy instruments before trying them if they know enough about them.  My brother paid around £3500 for a Korg Oasys synth, and he'd never tried one.  But he knew how good it was already, because he knows a lot about keyboards.  Same with the 2Box - it sounded amazing in the videos, it was an open system with plenty memory, comes with all hardware, pads and modules, I loved the look and the DDRUM 4 guys made it so it had to be good  8).  But hey, I like taking a chance - not everyone does so fair enough.

If you feel the need to play it before buying it, then I understand, but I also encourage people to just go for it too, because its a great set.

Another reason for my 'blind' purchase was I wanted to support a new company that is trying to give the end user (you and me) a great product for a good price, which is also an open system.  Compare that to Roland for example, who are still hawking around the same technology they've always had for hugely inflated prices for something you can't even update or add samples to - its night and day.  But Roland count on people buying into the brand becuase its a strong brand.  You think of e-drums, you think Roland.  They're safe.  In reality though, their COSM technology is stagnant, their kits are over priced, and they seem unwilling to open their systems to the end user to maximise profit and brand loyalty.

I suppose in my mind, I hope that if I show support by buying a new product from a creative group of people who are trying to do something good for us and not just to make money (of course 2Box wants to make money too  ;)), then we will be exploited less by big companies like Roland and have more competition in the market, forcing other companies to inovate and improve their prices and products.

I'm not sure whether this has already been discussed somewhere else but:

Will there be any difference/improvements concerning the hardware (or other things you cannot improve with updates) with the next shipment (such that it would be worth it to wait rather than to get one of the "old" ones now)? Or will it be exactly the same kit as one of the older ones with the most recent software updates?

Btw, I really appreciate your comments on the pre-ordering issue...

I think you are right HM.  1st Shipment of kits had aluminium rims and a less robust hi-hat clamp.  2nd shipment they started using polycarbonate rims and a stronger hi-hat clamp.  Thats the only difference in hardware as I understand it.  I have the polycarbonate rims and they seem perfectly strong.  New HH clamp is good too.

The only new piece of hardware that may become available I know about is the orange cross bar for the rack, which 2Box say might make the rack a bit sturdier, but it seems this is an optional extra that you would have to pay for.  I'm happy with the rack but some on the forum have complained about its stability, so the cross bar may be useful to some.

All in all, the hardware for the 3rd shipment of kits should be exactly the same as the 2nd shipment.  As for software, this 3rd shipment should come with O/S version 1.04 instead of the version 1.03 that shipped with the 2nd shipment , but this is not an issue since you can update via PC if it doesn't.

Why is this taking so long, its not good that 2box is being so silent to their future customers. Also The lack of spare parts and the light quality of the kit is not good for the trust of the customers in this company.

I'll bet they work very hard to work things out, but they have to start to communicate!
How can we get them to realize this?

Hey Walter, I understand your pain man! But the fact there is so much demand for a brand new product from such a small and new company, is amazing - they are really dedicated to looking after their growing base of owners.

Show me a Roland forum where the lead software developer posts techincal specifications and asks questions about what people want to see next in the kit...Also, Scott from Hand in Hand (the UK distributor) has been working really hard to deal with customer service stuff for people all over Europe and beyond!

Well all - bad news - I'm going to go back home to Perth, Australia shortly and have decided to sell my Drumit 5 here in London, UK (Postcode W41SY) rather than ship it. Mainly because back at home I can use a normal kit without disturbing neighbours! :)

About the kit - includes everything in the DrumIt 5 kit, including all the boxes. It's in perfect condition other than being missing one of the dial knobs (I'll prob find one somewhere though). Been patched to the latest firmware etc. Buyer can come test before buying, then I'll do/help pack it in its boxes etc. Also comes with a pair of drum sticks and a Mapex Double Braced Motorbike Drum Throne. Think I spent about £1800 all up so make me an offer. I can be emailed on travisbentley@gmail.com.

It's an interesting day. Today is the last known expected re-stocking day at Thomann's (http://www.thomann.de/gb/2box_drum_it_five_e_drum_system.htm). What will happen? Will the delivery status go yellow again and the expected date jump weeks or months into the future like all the other times before? Or will it actually be in stock before the day is over? Not holding my breath on this one...

I'm on the waiting list at my local drum shop (who sold one of the first kits in Sweden) and I'm gonna wait 'til they have it ('cause I like them and want to support them). Still no word on when, though.

The delivery for the UK is on the way to us, and we should be receiving it Monday / Tuesday. So retailers should start seeing their orders by the middle of next week.

I'm happy to tell you that my kit which i ordered from thomann the third of march has left the thomann store and is on it's way to my apartment. They sent me the kit (and all the other crap i ordered) on wednesday. The normal deliverytime for my location is like 2 to 5 days.

I feel like a kid on christmas and I can't stand knowing that the kit is on it's way. I am constanly trying to fool myself by thinking that I've never ordered anything. Thats how I plan to make it through this weekend.

I have ordered mine the 18 of December and still no drum kit.
I made a call 2 weeks ago to my local store where I ordered the kit (in Montreal) and they told me they received the kit (brain, pads, cymbals) but not the rack.
Do you have some news about supply in Canada?
Thanks.

Hi Perico

I will see what information i can find out for you  :)

Thanks,
Scott

That's gotta be a typo! I've ordered my kit by Peter Verspuy in Rotterdam and they told me that my kit has been send by the German distributor last Wednesday.

Perhaps they mean the NEXT (4th) shipment
Did the 3rd shipment arrive this month?
Scotty?

Hi puttenvr

Yes you are correct, that is a place holder for the 4th shipment at the moment.
The third shipment should be hitting most stores this week  :)

I spoke to them a while ago. They had 18 kits in pre-order and only recieved a few of them. Perhaps they are too disappointed about shipments.

Well, I'll tell you my story..

I ordered my kit in the beginning of march from thomann, they sent me the kit 2 weeks ago. Got only half my kit last week (the drumstand), the other part of my kit disappeared with the swedish postal service. I contacted the postal service, trying to track the package down. And they told me that it seems lost and that they could not really do anything unless thomann their selves claimed the package.

So I contated thomann about this. They wanted me to fill in a no claim statement. Some signed statement about that I would not claim the package, and that I gave this right to thomann. I asked thomann why, and they told me that they would send me the missing part of the kit as soon as they got the statement. So I did mail them this signed statement. And now a day later the kit is no longer in their website.. Dosen't look good at all. And I've allready payed for it all aswell.

Bought them and I have to write a short review:

The sound were ok. Some where good and some less good. But again I can get what ever sound I want in the next update :)

The drums trigger extremely good, I have played all Roland kits, and this one beats roland td-20, I mean, even the crashcymbal is 3-zone. Same problems with the zones that some people told about. To loud bell och bell on a place at the middle of the cymbal. Besides that the cymbals are great, like the way they swing and that they are hard, harder than rolands cymbals which are to soft.

Actually, the reaction that 2 friends who can play drums and from me was "omfg, it feels like acoustic drums", that means: the mesh is great, the size of the drums is great, the dynamic is great (I use a real snarestand, so i have extreme sensivity on that, can play soft drum rolls whit no problems at all. The cymbals have hard surface which is great. I use a pearl hihatstand and a peacedouble pedal (which actually was great).

Just one thing: the kick is to hard, which makes the beater to bounce twice to the surface. I will experiment with this, I have some foam from absorbents (bought to many of them) that I will test with, or maybe craft foam (which can be bought for 3$ at usual hobbystores) that I will tape on the surface of the kick drum.

In the kickdrum there is a bit to hard rubber behind the mesh, and it is this that seams to be the problem.

Hi puttenvr,
I'm french but I live in Montréal Canada.
For now I'm happy with the kit. I just have some crosstalk with my ride cymbal. I changed the trig settings of this cymbal but I still have some crosstalk. Which settings do you have for your ride cymbal? Maybe I have to change the place of this cymbal. I would like to know if you succed to avoid all crosstalk?
About the kick it looks like I have to play hard to have a full sound. Though when I hit the kick head with my finger in the hole I hear a good level sound. Where does the beater should hit the kick head exactly?
Thanks for your help
Title: Re: Next shipment!!
Post by: puttenvr on April 11, 2010, 03:03:14 PM
My kit is in the practice room (not @home) so I can't check any cymbal settings. But I don't have any crosstalk. Only slightly problems with the bell/bow positions.
The beater hits the pad somewhat above the place where the trigger is

Which beater do you prefer?

Is the TDrum Triggerball ok? Or is it to soft?

I will test with some acoustic foam on the beaters, then maybe a sponge, hehe :p
I will post the result after i tested! :)

<it isnt noise that is the problem, it is that the beater bounces twice at the kick everytime I hit it.

Is there a way to untighten the meshhead on the kick?

Title: Re: Next shipment!!

I have got no more explanation at that time. It may be the process that is used to build the kit, the materials that are used, I don't know. When I read this I thought cymbals and their triggering problem.

We reckon that in 2 months time it will reach the dealers.

yes, but 2Box have indicated in another thread on this forum that the next firmware update will improve the cymbal triggering, but it will still be a compromise, and won't solve the problem completely.

Btw, where is the new OS?  :'(

I would also like a retrigger setting for the bass-drum, most guys would be happy for that. I solved the problem by buying T-drums triggerball and lower the beaters so that the lowest point of the beater is about 0,5 cm from the trigger. (that also made me change the bass-drum gain from 14->5). It also feelt a little smother, regular beaters are a little to hard against the foam-rubber inside the bass-drums.

I'm pretty sure those new pics are 3d renders and not real photos.
That was the same at the beginning with their advertising (like the pdf brochure) until they replace them by real photos.
Anyway 3d renders will be real hardware one day.  ;)
