Title: 2box drum covers
Post by: tower of p on June 21, 2013, 10:21:51 AM
Ola amigos,

I made my first drumcover-video this week (and my first youtube-video as well), and I'd like to share it with you.

So here it is:
PANTERA - Mouth For War

Cheers!

Nice drumming and the drums sound good too. Are you playing a VST through the computer or sounds from the module? J

Awesome. Vulgar Display of Power  is my favorite Pantera album. Nice job.

Same question as above...what sounds did you use?

Hi J, hi fulrmr, thanks!
I´m playing  Superior Drummer 2 - Metal Foundry via MIDI, it´s a MF-preset called something like "Texas Metal".

For recording, the  Midi-constellation (playing a vst in Logic) is best for me, since I can change sounds even after recording and see what suits best.

I also have created loads of dsnds (with sdse), and put them to my brain (well, not MY brain but the orange one), but the dsnds from superior always sound slightly different from the original VST-sound, especially when SD2-Effects (compressor, EQ...) are used. I don´t know if it´s the same with bfd or other vst´s? Didn´t try them so far.

Yes, for recording you would have a definite advantage with the MIDI performance. Once you have the MIDI performance you can change kits, instruments, use whatever effects you want. For live performance or just getting some great module sounds building the dsnds for direct module play is great. To me that is a nice advantage to 2Box, excellent sounds in the module besides being able to trigger VSTs via MIDI if desired.

Generally, "out of the box" so to speak BFD sounds tend to be more raw and natural sounding and SD2 more of the already processed/mixed sound. But BFD has all the presets, tools and effects there too, and the results are almost limitless. So I wouldn't really want to choose either/or, I love both. And with either program there are almost endless variations that can be achieved through the onboard tools and presets available.

Hi Murgen,

I know. youtube refuses to play the video on mobile devices because of copyright issues (the song) --- or at least I didn´t manage to find out how to make it work.

cheers

Hi Lutz, finally sitting in front of my Mac and great cover. And how nice to see the bass-pad fix. :)  You have a 682 mesh head too? It works for me, feels like a genuine kick!

Hey,
no, 682 only on the snarepad so far (the single-layer-head tore apart, so I thought a 2-ply-head would last longer). I thought I´d wait with the 682 for the kick till the head breaks, too. but you made me curious... maybe I try it later today...

btw., on the snarepad, the 682 mesh triggers a little worse on silent strokes, compared to the 2box-singleply-head.

Yes, I read that too. The opposite is true for the kick. I got rid of the bouncing balls and it playes quite well. :)

2nd drum cover by me:

QUEENS OF THE STONEAGE - No One Knows.

http://youtu.be/RHLDfngod7k (http://youtu.be/RHLDfngod7k)

It´s again played directly in SD2, Metal Foundry kick and cymbals, NY-Avatar Snare and Toms.

Cheers,

Lutz
