First gig with my 2box (and hi hat is now broken...)
« on: April 02, 2010, 10:02:51 PM »
Hello folks !

So yesterday I played live for the first time with my 2box. The sound was very good, I had very good feelings, almost like using an acoustic set. I will post pictures soon (no videos for now).

Only one very bad thing : the hi hat tilter (I don't know if it's the good english word : this is the piece of metal where there is the screw to attach the hi hat to the stand) is broken. I will post pictures on tuesday to show you the problem.
In brief, this metal piece is being split into 2 parts, so the hi hat can't now be attached to the stand. Scott, is it the first time you hear that ? Thanks for your help.

Cheers,
Florian

I also have now performed twice live with my 2box. The sound engineer was very happy with sounds overall. The DrumIt Five worked almost great but I had quite much trouble with the ride cymbal triggering. Everything is fine when I play hard and loud; the bell works also very well (I could find the sweet spot near the wingnut). However, in quiet parts the cymbal triggered very badly. The most subtle hits to the bow consistently triggered the bell sound (quiet enough, luckily) and I could get the bow sound only by hitting a bit too loud for the mood of the music. This was also partly because of monitoring, I couldn't hear all the subtleties without earphones. Anyway, the 2box team has promised to make the cymbal triggering better in next update, I hope it works better then.

I have this trouble also with my ride cymbal, I hope it works fine after the next update.

Reading inputs here before  bought my kit I expected there were parts that like the mesh heads that could break .
But after more than a month, with rehearsals and several gigs a 3 hour rock, my drums have worked flawlessly.
I“m impressed.
I like the hardware because of it“s flexibility and ease to set up and tear down (not to mention carrying around). Most impressive is of course the sounds. Coming from Roland“s synthetic modeling it“s a new world.

I had my first live performance after the OS update, and I am very happy about the DrumIt Five kit.

I was playing in the house band of a christian student conference the whole weekend and I had no major problems with the kit. The ride cymbal still does not feel like a real one, but I can live with that.

The sound engineer, also a drummer, was satisfied. Before hearing the 2box kit he suggested I should use real cymbals, but in the end, using 2box cymbals allowed him to have the general volume at a level very pleasant to audience.

I will definitely use the 2box kit a lot in live performances in the future.  :)
