2box on stands

I was never all that comfortable with the rack that came with the 2box kit (MK1). The other day I decided to try and put it on some of the stands from my acoustic kit to make it feel a bit more like I'm used to. It took a bit of jerry-rigging, but in the end I managed. (If someone's interested in the details, just ask).

I did this mainly for feel and added flexibility in my setup, but I was surprised to find that this was not the greatest effect. The kit just SOUNDED much better. Those pesky cymbals that I never got to trigger right, just sounded amazing. Bell, bow and edge responding just as they should.

I think this might have to do with better isolation between the pads. I can imagine with a rattling rack, where even the kick is attached, there must be a lot of Xtalk going on at all times. This messing with the 2box performance.

Anyhow, just my experience. I'm a much happier 2boxer overnight  ;D

Please post some photos. :)

I'll see what I can do about photos.

The greatest problem was that the 2box tom-mounts don't fit any industry-standard L-arm. I was able to fit them to my Ludwig stand by using some X-large washers that rest against the outer orange rim, allowing the inside "eyelet" to be pulled further out. The high tom was mounted using a bracket that fit the 2box "allen-wrench" L-arm.

The cymbals were mounted on regular stands with the big washer removed.

The kick was a bit more complicated. The first thing that happened when I got my kit was that the bracket broke. I had to make a quick-fix which involved some drilling and treading of bracket and the pad's mounting plate, connecting it directly to the rack bar, discarding the pedal mounting plate. Using this modified bracket I was able to fix the kick-pad to the base of an old drum stool I had lying around. It's actually more sturdy than you would think... Oh, well.. I guess this makes no sense unless you see it.. Wait for photos..  ;)

Live pics didn't work that well, so posting links instead.

I always put my kit on a carpet, so I don't need the pedal attachment plate. The DW9000 has tons of velcro underneath. The beater positioning is a bit low, so I put the pedal a bit to the left to avoid hitting the trigger cover and getting it a bit away from the trigger itself.

Did some further minor modifications since the pics were taken. I managed a slight tilt by re positioning the spar one of the legs and added some velcro to the feet to avoid creep.
