Kick drum separation
« on: January 25, 2012, 06:28:51 AM »
Hi Fellow Drumit's, I play my 2box in a rock band and for my own monitor I run a lead from headphones on brain to my powered speaker. For the other players I run a lead from out 1 to our mixing desk...only problem there is, is the kick drum overpowers and distorts the monitor and in-ears they use. I would like to remove the kick from their mix and use say out 2 for kick only to a separate channel on the mix desk whereby we have control over the kick sound and volume and send to our sub speakers only...meaning the only drummit sounds going through their monitors will be everything else except kick. I need to be able to do this without changing what I'm hearing through my monitor via the headphones connection. Does anyone have a similar experience and possibly help me to solve my problem. Also can I do this without having to change the settings for each drum kit I use Thanks in advance. 8)

Just go to Unit - Intf, hit the kick, set it to Bus 2 or anyother output, save and that's it.

Hi Guy's, tried setting the kick to bus 2 as suggested and at the gig ran a cable for the bass drum separately from out 2. When I tried it out I was still getting the whole kit thru out 2. I suspect out 1 and 2 are stereo outs and I was getting the rest of the kit from one side, so I will try another out..say 4 or 5 and see if that works. Cheers.

Well, yes, all pads are set to 1+2 meaning you'd have to set all the other pads to just 1. Keep in mind that sounds are in stereo and to get the best results pads should be set to 1+2, 3+4 or 5+6..

Hi GH,does that mean I can use 7 or 8 as a free channel? I would like to be able to have a dedicated kick drum channel, to the mixing desk.
It sounds like I can't do this if the sounds are all stereo..although we run a mono mix of everything thru our PA. The drums would not need to be in stereo either. Cheers.

What I meant to say is that the sounds are in stereo. All the outputs are mono outputs. By default 2Box is set to 1+2 (left + right). You are getting the whole kit through 2 because snare, toms and cymbals are still set to 1+2. You have to change the settings for all the pads to just 1 and kick to just 2 to have it separated.

But you can also run the sounds in stereo and set pads to 1+2 and kick to 3+4 and then connect outputs 1-4 to mixing desk.
